Their iconic aviation instrument-inspired watches. Five exemplary watches from Bell & Ross The Frenc

Their iconic aviation instrument-inspired watches. Five exemplary watches from Bell & Ross The French brand of Swiss-made watches, Bell & Ross are renowned for their aviation instrument-inspired timepieces—now available exclusively through Ethos, in India The Bell & Ross brand was founded in 1992 by Bruno Belamich (Bell) and Carlos Rosillo (Ross), and then forged ties with German watchmaker Sinn. A decade later, Chanel came on-board as an investor, following which Bell & Ross ended their association with Sinn and relocated production to La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, at the G&F Châtelain manufacture, where Chanel’s watches were also made. Their first offering—the BR 01 Instrument—put the French brand of Swiss-made watches firmly on the horological radar with its square-shaped case and a cockpit instrument-inspired dial. Bell & Ross, now known for their tool watches and military-inspired models, initially stuck to two categories: the square-shaped Instrument and the round-cased Vintage collections. From 2016, the brand branched into automotive sport watches as well, and are currently the official partners of the Renault Sport Formula One team. Among their product pillars today are the Instrument and Urban collections. Here’s a closer look at five of the top watches from these series. BR 03-92: With a vintage, black sun-ray dial from the Golden Heritage line Bell & Ross owe much of their horological presence to their impressive BR 03 models. With an instantly recognisable square-shaped case and circular instrument-inspired dial, the look, albeit polarising, successfully bolsters Bell & Ross’s aviation aesthetic. The BR 03 Golden Heritage line tones down its military charm for a dressier and more classic look. The BR 03-92 model, in particular, is quite unlike the other 03-92 models of the brand. For instance, the 42mm case is satin-finished with polished bevels and details. More importantly, a major departure from the Bell & Ross’s design palette is the black sun-ray dial with gilded numerals and indices that exudes a warm, vintage feel, despite its modern-day features. The three-hand BR 03-92 Golden Heritage is powered by BR-CAL.302 and has a date display tucked between four and five o’clock. Finished with a gold-coloured vegetable-tanned calfskin strap, it fits well on the wrist, exuding old-school charm. With luxury sport watches, there ought to be harmony between the case and bracelet, and this BR 05 model doesn’t flout the rule. Its square-shaped case and continuous lines between casebands and bracelet links reflects this ethos. The Bell & Ross BR 05 features the brand’s signature Arabic numerals and indexes, as well as rounded baton hands. To give this watch a more urban and luxurious feel, the dials—available in black or blue—are sunray brushed with applied markers. The date, classically positioned at three o’clock, is framed by a metallic ring. The black model is slightly different, with the presence of minute markers—to create the link with the other military models. The movement used to power these watches, the BR-CAL.321, with a frequency of 4Hz and a 42-hour power reserve, is visible through the caseback. Following the BR 01/BR 03 design palette, the BR 05 watch case is 40mm in width—relatively small compared with a lot of sport watches out there. A square watch arguably has a more prominent presence on the wrist, with its invariable greater surface area. Not only is the look of the watch busier, bolder, and more masculine, but even the proportions have changed. Earlier BR 05 models had Arabic numerals in a large font size at the quadrants for legibility. This new model sports sub-dials at nine and three o’clock, and chronograph pushers on the case flanking the crown. To power this BR 05 Chrono, Bell & Ross rely on the tried-and-tested BR-CAL.301, based on the automatic modular chronograph ETA 2894-2. From the original BR 05 size of 40mm, this chronograph model has become bigger—at 42mm. Two dial variations dubbed as ‘black steel’ and ‘blue steel’, and two strap options in rubber and steel, respectively—both quite integrated with the case. MRP: Starts at ₹5,22,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882), [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The new BR-X5 with a fresh ice blue dial and a solid automatic calibre within Bold, muscular, and technical, are three attributes that typify the new Bell & Ross BR-X5 from Bell & Ross’s Urban collection. BR-X5 relies on a different architecture. At 41mm in width, the watch is on the larger side for the brand. Even the hands and hour markers on the dial are bolder, larger, and generously filled with Super-LumiNova. A power reserve display with a three-day indication and a large triple-figure date window are vital add-ons. Above all, a trendy new ice blue covers the dial. The main game changer, however, is the new movement BR‐CAL.323 by Kenissi. This is a solid automatic movement with a three-day power reserve, a variable inertia balance, a transversal balance bridge, and it runs at a frequency of 4Hz. Together, these exceptional features make the BR-X5 a powerful timepiece. This model adds a necessary unidirectional-rotating bezel marked with a classical 60-minute dive-timer scale. Available in tones of black, blue or white, even the dial is geared for professional diving. This model does away with the aviation-inspired Arabic numerals; instead featuring large, luminous, and legible markers in a combination of round, bullet indexes and a unique 12-hour marker to quickly check the time underwater, or in the dark. The hour and minute hands are in two sizes, shapes, and colours. Powered by the calibre BR-CAL.302, an automatic movement packing a power reserve for 38 hours. Accompanying the model are two straps: one in woven black or blue rubber and an ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric ending in steel pin buckles. Both options allow the wearer to make quick adjustments in securing the watch over a diving suit even.
