With declassification of Swiss Army records. Military-issue: Presenting the new Doxa Army in steel Following a declassification of the Swiss Army’s records, Doxa have brought back this diver’s watch, which was first issued by the army in the 60s In the realm of tool watches, it’s difficult to find a brand with more history or pedigree than Doxa. From the 1930s, through the quartz crisis of the 1980s, they created a brand around a concentrated emphasis on the purpose-made tool watch, garnering the attention of hard-core divers and adventure amateurs alike. While the brand have been operating since 1889, it wasn’t until 1967 that the company focused solely on professional diving watches. Doxa’s release of the Sub 300 marked a pivotal point for the brand, as it was a runaway hit. It followed the simple formula of pairing technological prowess, but priced lower than its contemporaries. The 300T’s success did not go unnoticed, capturing the interest of Special Forces. The Swiss Army established a unique unit of military divers trained to become an elite corps in 1966. The first diver from the corps began training in 1968, and at about the same time, the Doxa Sub 300T passed a tough battery of tests devised by the Swiss Army so that the watch could become standard equipment provided to its divers. In 1969, the brand and the Swiss Army went one step further, co-developing a timepiece to meet their special requirements. And thus, the Doxa Army was born. Up until 2021, Doxa couldn’t even mention this achievement, but as soon as the Swiss Army declassified certain old records, a door was opened for Doxa. MRP: Starts at ₹1,82,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028881](tel:08725028881), [+91 8725028883](tel:08725028883) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( A modern re-edition, using a naturally-finished steel case, with a bezel in bronze and ceramic One of the main differences between this Doxa Army and a classic SUB 300T is the bezel. While it still has the shark-tooth profile, the insert has here a classic 60-minute scale and not the emblematic no-deco scale of other Doxa dive watches. Fully graduated, this bezel is highly legible, with good contrast in daylight, but also a fair amount of lume on the triangle and numerals for night time readability. This unidirectional bezel is available either in classic steel combined with a black ceramic insert or, new for the brand, the bezel can be made of bronze and in this case, the ceramic insert is in dark ‘hunter’ green. Solid construction with durability and 300m of water resistance assured If you’re familiar with Doxa, you’ll know that their cushion shape and clipped lugs cause their case dimensions to appear deceptively large. Measuring 42.5mm in diameter and 44.5mm from lug to lug, the case is 11.95mm thick. The cushion-shaped case ensures that this chunky watch can easily be accommodated on even smaller wrists. In addition to that, a dive-ready 300m of water resistance is ensured by solid steel casebacks and screw-down crowns, and flat sapphire crystal is used for the glass. The same sand-beige dial on the face of the re-issue The Doxa Army follows through on the design aesthetic of the original, adding a subtle touch of modernity and performance in tune with today. The dial of this steel Doxa Army remains the same as the black limited edition, and it’s thus identical to the historic model. It has an original sand-beige matt colour in the centre and a highly graphic, yet legible chapter ring with bold black rectangular markers, a minute track in white over a black background, and hour indexes in beige and white. The latter are all covered in SLN, for night-time legibility. This re-issue watch, just like its predecessor, features a date at three o’clock. The oddly placed logos and Army sign, which participated in the weirdly cool look of the vintage model, are also present here. The hands, also original in shape and colours, are an ode to the historic model with their arrow design and bold orange tone. Suiting a more active lifestyle with a steel or rubber strap and an extra NATO strap Finally, the steel Doxa Army is available on a choice of straps and bracelets. The steel/black bezel can be worn on a stainless steel 'beads of rice' bracelet, equipped with a folding and a diving extension, or a black rubber strap with a steel folding clasp and diving extension. The bronze/green bezel model can also be ordered with the same bracelet or rubber strap, but also with a third option, a green FKM rubber strap. Finally, all models are delivered in a special pouch with a camouflage pattern (the same as on the uniform worn at the time by the Swiss Army) and an additional NATO camouflage strap.
