New at Ethos: the iconic Jacob & Co. Jacob & Co: Now at Ethos Discover 12 amazing watches from the iconic brand of audacious timepieces that has become a hot favourite of celebrities from various fields Watches from Jacob & Co. are true statement pieces that make a mark in more ways than one. It started with Jacob Arabo, the founder and chairperson, who moved with his family from former USSR to USA for a better life, back in the day. In 1981, Arabo started out as a designer for jewellery labels, and eventually founded his own, named ‘Jacob & Co.’. He soon became known for popularising big statement jewellery for men, gaining an audience in celebrities such as A-list hip-hop stars, other musicians and sportspersons. Jay-Z, Drake, 50 Cent, Madonna, Rihanna, Pharrell, Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, Sofia Vergara, Michael Jordan, and Mariah Carey are just some of the celebrities who have been patrons of Jacob & Co, for their jewellery as well as their watches. When Arabo created the brand’s first timepiece—a five-time-zone watch—in 2002, it saw instant success with its bold colour palette and design. By 2007, Arabo founded Jacob & Co SA in Geneva, Switzerland, and introduced his first high-watchmaking timepiece, the Quenttin, which boasted multiple firsts. There was no turning back, and every few years, the brand kept unveiling one outrageous piece after another. The famed Astronomia collection catapulted to success in the 2010s, and 2019, onwards, the brand got into various high-profile partnerships. There was Bugatti (for the Bugatti Twin Turbo watch), Paramount Pictures (for a Godfather-special watch), NBC/Universal Studios (for a Scarface-themed watch, and later for a Fast And Furious watch); and then Warner Bros and DC, for a Batman-themed timepiece. The driving force for Jacob & Co. is based on creativity and uniqueness. Their timepieces are now available at Ethos Watch Boutiques. We shine a spotlight on 12 amazing timepieces from the brand, including a newer rendition of Jacob Arabo’s first watch ever. What led to the development of the Astronomia Art Collection, however, is the incredible case in sapphire crystal and precious metal, which puts everything inside on display. In the India edition, there are four hand-engraved and hand-painted miniatures of famous monuments. Gracing the aventurine glass base of the double-axis tourbillon mechanism are the Taj Mahal, the Lotus Temple, India Gate and the Qutub Minar. Countless hours of hand work go into these miniature works of art. In addition to these monuments, this Astronomia Tourbillon features a 288-facet ‘Jacob-cut’ diamond, which rotates once in 60 seconds. Opposite the diamond is the blue-lacquered globe in magnesium, which also does a rotation per minute. Completing the four-way balance of the satellite is the main timekeeping dial, skeletonised with Roman numerals that are hand-engraved and filled with black lacquer, accompanied by hand-finished hands in blue. All this runs on a 60-hour manual-winding calibre, and is housed in a generous 50mm ‘showcase’ in 18-karat rose gold and sapphire crystal. Epic X The Epic X is a modern evolution of one of the most traditional forms of watchmaking. The open-worked, or ‘skeletonised’ timepiece allows the movement to be visible both through the dial and the back of the watch, with as much metal removed as possible without compromising functionality. The goal of the watchmaker crafting an open-worked watch is to achieve the highest level of transparency possible; the challenging combination of visual lightness with structural integrity. The Epic X case is bold and elegant, yet robust. The manual-winding calibre JCAM01 of the Epic X is positioned vertically and skeletonized then finely finished, so it is almost transparent. It offers a 48-hour power reserve and two-hand timekeeping. With a bold and distinctive design, the 44mm case, in black DLC-treated grade-5 titanium showcases a powerful ‘X’ shape through the sapphire crystal of the glass and caseback. MRP: ₹19,40,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Epic X Chrono series The Epic X design from Jacob, with claw-like lugs and two prominent visible bridges on either side of the movement, has been translated into this chronograph version—a 47mm sporty watch that is striking and supremely attractive. Featuring a semi-skeletonised movement, visible through a coloured mineral crystal dial, the Epic X Chrono features a Swiss-made high-end column-wheel chronograph movement with a bi-compax layout. The Epic X Chrono is also purpose-built, so it has a technical, sporty style with the chronograph pushers on the side of the case. All this runs on the self-winding calibre JCAA05, which offers a power reserve of 48 hours. The watch has an antireflective sapphire crystal glass, a ceramic bezel and rubber pushers, a screw-down crown and an inner rotating bezel with a 60-minute timer, controlled by the push-down crown at 10 o’clock. Water resistant to 200m, the Epic X Chrono is a true testament to the complexity of the design, as well as its highly engineered and equally robust architecture. This is Jacob & Co.’s sportiest watch, and is available in a variety of materials and colours. The Epic X Chrono is a true sports watch that makes a strong statement and is designed to take anything and everything you can throw at it. The strap on this piece is in rubber, with unique perforation, which makes for added wearing comfort. The versions of this watch in gold are crafted with a variety of combinations of solid, 18-karat gold and white or black ceramic. The crowns are wrapped and the profile of the angular lugs are set with high-precision rubber inserts, adding distinctive dashes of colour and a superior tactile experience. The front and the caseback are covered with antireflective sapphire crystal, with the addition of tinted mineral crystal for the dial and the caseback—in green or red. It is equipped with a ‘Glucydur’ balance wheel—which offers far lower thermal expansion—and an anti-shock system. Set in a 42mm case in 18-karat rose gold, water-resistant to 50m, the watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal glass with antireflective treatment. The display comprises a guilloche dial in various colours (seen here in brown), an applied emblem and markers, and polished dauphine hands for the two-hand timekeeping. Each piece is individually numbered and comes affixed to an alligator leather strap with a solid rose gold buckle. The calibre JCCM01 offers a power reserve of 50 hours, which is indicated on the dial at six o’clock. And diametrically opposite that, at 12, is a big date display—one that is quite coveted. All this is laid out on a dial featuring a guilloche pattern, in various colours—seen here in hues of grey, gold and blue. Housed in a 42mm steel case, with a sapphire crystal glass, the watch comes with an alligator leather strap or steel bracelet, depending on the version. MRP: ₹8,80,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( Palatial Five Time Zone Perfect for any world explorer, this cosmopolitan timepiece features a classically styled, five-time-zone dial indicating time of one’s home location via the two-hand central timekeeping, and four sub-dials with times in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Paris. But you really can set any time zones of your choice on them. Each of the five generously proportioned dials features sword‐shaped hands and finely cut markers that have an unmistakable retro flair. The main dial is in black nickel, with a guilloche pattern, while the sub-dials are snailed and in ruthenium. Each of the five sets of timekeeping hands runs on its own Swiss quartz calibre—the ETA 280.002. To accommodate the multiple movements within, the steel case is generously sized at 45mm, topped by a rounded sapphire crystal glass with inner antireflective treatment. The closed, satin-finished caseback features a world map motif. It is engraved and lacquered. Sized at 38mm, the steel case features a single row of 52 round-cut diamonds on the bezel, totalling about 1.3 carat. Even the crown has as many as 32 round diamonds, amounting to about 0.39 carat. Meanwhile, the white mother-of-pearl dial is set with 11 coloured sapphires for hour markers (about 0.44 carat), and the centre of the dial is paved with 50 diamonds (0.66 carat). Housing a Swiss quartz ETA calibre 955.432, the steel case has a sapphire crystal glass and a satin-finished caseback. It comes fitted with an elegant satin strap. The case itself is set with 298 round white diamonds (about 6.5 carat), with the bezel paved with 56 diamonds (0.55 carat). In polished 18-karat rose gold, with sapphire crystal, the 38mm case has an interesting caseback featuring a corrector for time-setting (instead of a usual crown), which connects to a Swiss quartz ETA calibre E01.701 within. The satin strap comes with an 18-karat rose gold buckle, which is also set with diamonds—about 0.48 carat. This brings the total number of diamonds to a whopping 476 stones, amounting to 8.43 carat.
