The best of the Classic and the new-age Neo Bridges. The seven finest Bridges watches from Girard-Pe

The best of the Classic and the new-age Neo Bridges. The seven finest Bridges watches from Girard-Perregaux From the Classic to the Neo, from the Free to the Infinity; from Earth to Sky and the contemporary Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, this is Girard-Perregaux at their emblematic best One of the biggest claims to fame that Girard-Perregaux have had through their 231-year-long history has been their Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges. A precursor to the contemporary Bridges collection, its creation was initiated in the 1850s, when Constant Girard-Perregaux, who was at the helm of the brand, began work on a timepiece with a tourbillon regulator, which was fitted on a calibre with three parallel bridges. For this watch, he won the first medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867. Eventually submitted for a patent at the US Patent Office in 1884, the bridges of the watch were redesigned as parallel two-headed arrows, which are still a trademark of the Girard-Perregaux brand today. In 1889, the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges won a gold medal at the Universal Exposition in Paris. Eventually, the Three Gold Bridges translated to a wristwatch and gave birth to an entire range of ‘Bridges’ watches. Today’s Bridges collection takes forward the distinctive visual identity of those three parallel bridges, with the flexibility in the number of bridges depending on the functions and mechanical requirements. While the classic bridge design is still a mainstay, the redesigned ‘Neo Bridges’ present the emblematic bridges in a far more modern avatar. Here’s a look at seven of the brand’s finest Bridges watches that comprehensively showcase the collection and the brand. MRP: Starts at ₹16,56,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028892](tel:08725028892), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Classic Bridges—the original icon, quite literally emblematic It doesn’t get more iconic than the Bridges collection by Girard-Perregaux. It is, in fact, such a signature for the brand that a motif of the bridge design is also included in their emblem. This is by far the most wearable rendition of Girard-Perregaux’s signature Bridges watches. While most previous editions featured one major complication or the other, this was one of their first time-only editions, displaying only the hours and minutes. Yet, even though the functions are as simple as that, the attention to detail is certainly of haute horlogerie standards. The bridges, which transcend their purpose of being essential movement components, are decorated with bevelled and rounded edges, and present a visually striking combination of mirror-polished and satin-brushed finishes. While the lower bridge holds the balance wheel that gives the open-worked display a dynamic appeal, the upper bridge primarily holds the dauphine hands. MRP: ₹36,01,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028892](tel:08725028892), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Classic Bridges—in sizes that can suit any preference The components in the background—in steel, offering adequate contrast for clarity—are also crafted with various decorations including chamfered edges, as well as sunray and grained finishing. Among these is the barrel that can be seen up on the left, and on the right, the micro-rotor that winds the automatic calibre offering a power reserve of 48 hours—both of which present visual balance together. The Super-LumiNova-coated indexes jutting out from the periphery of the dial add to the visual depth of the piece and also ensure easy readability. The 40mm pink gold case comes with a transparent caseback and a leather strap. This essential model from the house of Girard-Perregaux also comes in a larger case size of 45mm, which offers a fuller picture of the bridges. While size is really about personal preference, both options are quite splendid in every sense and offer the same fine-watchmaking goodness. MRP: ₹32,30,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028892](tel:08725028892), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Neo Bridges—the Bridges in a new-age, futuristic avatar One of the more evolved iterations is their Neo Bridges line—which offers a more futuristic take on the traditional bridges structure, however not straying from their retro inspiration. It reinforces the brand’s spirit of traditional Swiss watchmaking while keeping an eye on the future. It was first introduced in 2017 with a timepiece in a warm grey titanium case, measuring 45mm in diameter, with a thickness of only 12.18mm. And with a framework like that, it’s remarkable to see that there’s practically no bezel here. The case has a consistent satin-brushed finish, except for the top of the lugs, which are mirror polished. The open-worked nature of the Neo Bridges, with a compact construction, features seemingly suspended indexes and a dot minute track. Acting like the baseplate of the movement, the dial forms the perfect backdrop for the balance wheel at six o’clock and the skeletonised hour and minute hands. While the micro-rotor is visible at 10 o’clock, while the mainspring barrel is at two. The sandblasted, and PVD-treated bridges surely makes for a captivating construction as well. The Neo Bridges timepieces are driven by Girard-Perregaux’s in-house automatic calibre GP-8400, beating at a frequency of 21,600vph, and offering a minimum 54-hour reserve. MRP: ₹23,83,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028892](tel:08725028892), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Neo Bridges Earth to Sky—with a splash of blue In the case of the Earth to Sky timekeeper, this titanium framework has been diligently coated with black DLC, which gives it a more modern appearance. In addition to the black and its subtle anthracite grey reflections provided by the treatment, the multiple layers applied to the titanium ensure better protection of the case against corrosion, thereby making it one of the most useful innovations in the modern watchmaking landscape. There are also blue PVD inserts, which look great against the black DLC case. The box-type sapphire crystal glass specially developed for this model makes it possible to capture light and direct it towards the heart of the movement. One can also view the inner workings of this fascinating mechanism through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback on turning over the watch. Powered by the same automatic calibre GP-8400 as the watch above, this Earth to Sky edition features slight modifications in the finishing of the components. The architectural nature of the structure is reinforced by contemporary finishing including a blue PVD coating on the barrel cover and micro-rotor, as well as a black PVD treatment adorning the delicately curved bridges. MRP: ₹25,46,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028892](tel:08725028892), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Free Bridge—the new-age bridge with visual freedom A far more modern and edgy interpretation of the brand’s icon, the Free Bridge’s eponymous bridge is one that we’ve seen before in the Neo Bridges. It’s quite interesting how the manufacture have owned the evolution of the bridge motif and even its avant-garde interpretations over the years. They call this one a ‘fresh and technical interpretation of the Girard-Perregaux tradition’. The name ‘Free’ Bridge comes from the visual freedom of the bridge from the rest of the visible components, as it rests on a section at the base of the mainplate. Of course, the design of this Bridge watch is a complete 180 from the Classic Bridges, even though this one is also a time-only rendition. However, the movement in this one has an element of modern mechanical watchmaking that several manufacturers aspire towards—silicon, which is used here for the escapement and parts of the balance wheel. Silicon remains unaffected by temperature changes, magnetic fields, and it is also far lighter than its metallic counterparts, besides not being susceptible to corrosion. Hence, silicon in the movement makes it more resistant to factors that can compromise its accuracy. This automatic movement offers a significant minimum power reserve of 54 hours. It comes housed in a generously sized 44mm steel case, with a calf leather strap. MRP: ₹16,56,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028892](tel:08725028892), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( Free Bridge Infinity Edition—a special version, with onyx and golden elements The Free Bridge Infinity is from the special Infinity Editions of Girard-Perregaux’s icons of the past and present. It also included the special editions of the Vintage 1945 and Bridges Cosmos. Characterised by their dials made of onyx, these editions come with hour markers and other details in gold, offset against the glossy, black canvas. In this Free Bridge Infinity, the singular bridge is also crafted in gold, steel of the case features a black DLC (diamond-like-carbon) treatment, which enhances its enigmatic appeal. MRP: ₹19,77,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028892](tel:08725028892), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges—a direct descendant of the original claim to fame And following in the footsteps of the brand’s first claim to fame is this Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges. Before the Bridges collection expanded into all its simpler and neo avatars, the signature of the brand was the three bridges presented parallel to each other on the face of the dial. This modern watch showcases the bridges in the same way, all three with the chiselled and bevelled finishing seen on the dual-arrow heads. The titular tourbillon can be seen affixed to the third gold bridge, close to six o’clock on the display. This tourbillon cage also serves as the running seconds, while the middle bridge holds the hour and minute hands. All this runs on the automatic calibre GP09400, which was developed and manufactured in-house. Thanks to its ingenious construction, the barrel was resized in order to house a longer barrel spring and to offer a longer power reserve, which is a minimum of 60 hours instead of 48 hours. Running at a frequency of 21,600vph, the movement comprises a total of 263 components, including the oscillating mass that winds the watch, which has been crafted from solid platinum. Interestingly, there are elements of the bridge motif seen on some components through the caseback view as well. Sandwiched with a sapphire crystal glass and caseback, the 45mm pink gold case is water-resistant to 30m, and comes affixed to an alligator leather strap, which has a triple-folding buckle in pink gold.
