Updates, special editions of aviation, dive watches. Presenting five exceptional 2021 novelties from Oris Four major updates to their Big Crown collection of aviation watches, and one special, sustainability-driven edition of the Aquis Date dive watch With social media making it almost necessary to keep conversations alive throughout the year, the watch industry has also shifted away from launching all their watches annually, with new products being unveiled every few weeks or months. Considering this, it’s only towards the end of the year that we truly get to see the complete picture of what a brand’s collection for the year really looks like, such as Oris’s. The Holstein-based brand, who only ever make watches with features that make practical sense, always have a plethora of new releases with new calibres, new materials and even those that celebrate new collaborations or long-term associations. Previously, we took a close look at a couple of the brand’s recent in-house movements. This time, we’ve decided to shift the focus to updates and special editions from Oris’s aviation and dive watch pillars. With the aviation collection, Big Crown, we have the first ProPilot in bronze, an edition representing an elite pilot training programme, and two very special editions that celebrate the work of air-rescue first-responder organisations—a set of Big Crowns that are as diverse as this collection gets. And with the Aquis Date, Oris's bestselling dive watch, we have a special Upcycle edition, whose dial is made from recycled plastic retrieved from oceans. Let’s take a closer look at these exceptional novelties. Oris Aquis Date Upcycle—with dials made of recycled plastic retrieved from the ocean In line with their pursuit of sustainability and climate neutrality, this year, Oris expanded one of their most revered collections, the Aquis, by introducing a brand-new iteration that offers a unique and colourful dial made from recycled ocean plastic. What makes the dial of this edition of the Aquis Date special is the PET plastic or polyester that provides a distinctive pattern and colourway to each dial crafted from it. And no two dials can be identical, making each piece quite unique in appearance. To achieve this milestone, Oris partnered with #tide Ocean Material, a Swiss organisation that aims to reduce plastic garbage in our oceans and recycle it. Available in two different sizes—41.5mm and 36.5mm—the Aquis Date Upcycle is presented in a solid steel case, featuring a unidirectional-rotating bezel with a sleek, grey ceramic insert. Owing to its knurled profile, the bezel promises exceptional grip, and it feels smooth and solid while turning. Water-resistant up to 300m, the watch comes with a screw-down crown flanked by crown protectors. The timepiece is equipped with the automatic Oris 733 movement that runs at 28,800vph and offers a power reserve of 38 hours. Featuring an exhibition caseback, the Aquis Date Upcycle is paired with a steel bracelet. The thought of a pilot’s watch in bronze would instantly conjure up an image of a very retro or vintage-looking piece. However, while presenting classic elements, it is very modern-looking. Perhaps the black dial has something to do with it. With the applied, white Arabic numerals for hour markers and white Super-LumiNova in the hands, the high-contrast achieved certainly helps make it look current, despite the golden-hued markings. With a green strap that looks almost grey, made from Ventile—a sustainable, high-quality, woven-cotton fabric—the overall colour scheme is very harmonious, and pleasing to look at. Sized at 41mm, and water-resistant to 100m, the case features knurling on the bezel that is inspired by the turbine blades of jet engines. Even the strap has an element inspired by flying—a bronze buckle fashioned like the buckle of a standard passenger-plane seatbelt. Running this watch’s three-hand timekeeping and titular big date at three o’clock is the automatic calibre 751, which offers a 38-hour power reserve, and can be seen through the transparent caseback. MRP: ₹1,63,800 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Big Crown ProPilot Rega Fleet Limited Edition—with a pulsometer scale and GMT A pilot’s watch with a function that’s primarily been associated with medicine is perfectly in line with the collaboration that this timepiece represents. The pulsometer scale on the bezel of the 41mm case in grey PVD-coated steel facilitates reading a person’s pulse rate. The arrow pointer of the bidirectional-rotating scale needs to be brought to the seconds hand, and the caregiver feeling the pulse of the patient needs to count the heat-beat until they get to the number that the scale is calibrated for—in this case, 30. The position of the seconds hand on the scale at that point is the heart rate in beats per minute. Additionally, this watch features a GMT hand, corresponding to a 24-hour GMT scale on the flange of the dial—with half-hour markings, which is beneficial for time zones such as India’s, with the extra 30-minute time difference. The automatic movement inside offers a power reserve of 42 hours. While the black dial features the Rega logo, the watch also comes with two straps—one black and one in Rega’s red—which are easily interchangeable, using the tool that is provided. They have 13 helicopter bases—each with aircraft that can arrive in any location in their respective region within 15 minutes. The crew of first responders at each base comprises a pilot, paramedics and an emergency flight physician ready to go, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are famous for their high-altitude mountain rescues, but can show up for any emergency healthcare required due to accidents or sudden health conditions. In 2020, in particular, they repatriated 140 COVID-19 patients on-board their ambulance jets. In all, they have 21 aircraft—11 Augusta Westland Da Vinci helicopters, seven Airbus helicopters and three Challenger 650 ambulance jets. And the Rega Fleet Limited Edition of watches comprises 21 models corresponding to the 21 service aircraft and each of their unique serial numbers. Each sub-edition of 21 watches is limited to 100 pieces, totalling 2,100 pieces in the entire limited edition. The Big Crown ProPilot Okavango Air Rescue—with a dial inspired by African grasslands This edition marks the partnership between Oris and another air rescue service, Okavango Air Rescue (OAR), who operate out of Botswana, in Southern Africa. It was founded by Swiss entrepreneur Christian Gross and German-born Dr Misha S Kruck—the latter of whom has even worked with Rega in the past, among her other stints, including work with Red Cross. The air rescue service provides assistance to locals and tourists in the region. This includes medical evacuation from remote areas, with the help of doctors and other first responders who arrive on the scene in medically-equipped helicopters. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Okavango Delta of Botswana is one of Africa’s most popular tourist destinations, and the area was not serviced for air rescues and other emergency medical assistance until OAR came along in 2011. MRP: ₹1,93,200 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The Okavango—a limited edition of 2,011 pieces, each with a complimentary extra strap This Oris watch marks 10 years of the OAR, with a beautifully textured dial in green, inspired by the grasses of the Okavango Delta, and comes with a matching textile strap, as well as a complimentary alternative in brown leather. The dial’s applied numerals, markers and hands in white offer great contrast against the gorgeous green pattern. Sized at 41mm and water-resistant to 100m, the steel case features a special engraving on the back that depicts an aerial view of the delta with a rescue aircraft flying over it. The three-hand timekeeping and date run on an automatic movement that offers a 38-hour power reserve, an instantaneous date feature and a stop-seconds mechanism for accurate time adjustment. The Okavango is limited to 2,011 pieces—a reference to the year when the OAR was founded. The Big Crown ProPilot TLP Limited Edition Another watch borne out of a partnership, this one represents Oris’s association with the Tactical Leadership Programme (TLP)—an elite pilot training school, based in Albacete, Spain. Since 1978, the TLP has been training NATO-allied coalition forces for worldwide tactical air operations. This watch is a special edition of the most basic ProPilot, with simple three-hand timekeeping, and day and date windows at three o’clock—powered by an automatic movement with a 38-hour reserve. A limited edition of 750 pieces, the 44mm case, water-resistant to 100m, in steel with an antiglare gun metal grey-PVD coating, features an engraving of the TLP emblem with its eagle motif on the caseback. The green of the dial and the beige of its markers are taken from the green of the TLP flight overalls and the beige of TLP emblem on it, respectively. The matching strap in green is made from Ventile, the high-performance textile that was first developed during World War II, for the British Royal Air Force.
