Retro-styled, motorsport-inspired limited editions. The all-new, retro-styled Frederique Constant Vintage Rally Healey Automatic Small Seconds Paying homage to the Austin-Healey 100S prototype car, these new editions feature small seconds sub-dials and are available in three colour variants For over 15 years, connoisseurs of beautiful engineering have appreciated the union of automobiles and watchmaking with the limited Vintage Rally series, created by Frederique Constant in tribute to the legendary Austin-Healey. Contributing to this legacy are three new models in retro styles that are every bit as sleek as they are stylish. It’s become something of a ritual that fans of the Geneva-based maison have come to expect like clockwork. This year, Frederique Constant are offering new versions of their iconic Vintage Rally collection, the only one they have ever designed for car collectors. While these watches reflect the Swiss watchmakers’ association with the British carmaker, they are suitable for anyone who enjoys cars or simply even admires retro-styled watches. Let’s take a closer look at these models. MRP: Starts at ₹1,35,500 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( Cars and watches, and the association between Frederique Constant and Austin-Healey The similarities between automobiles and watches include: the art of beautiful engineering, precision, timeless design, the combination of leather and metal, comfort, and above all, a certain ‘art de vivre’. The Vintage Rally by Frederique Constant represents all that, and plenty more. This collection is based on a close collaboration with Austin-Healey. The two brands joined forces back in 2004. Counting 17 years of fellowship geared around sport and watchmaking, theirs is one of the most enduring associations in the industry, reflective of the unbreakable bond that the two maisons share in drawing on tradition to create thoroughly modern designs, especially for those who truly appreciate craftsmanship and elegance. Available in different colours, the new retro-styled Vintage Rally Healey Automatic Small Seconds models are the first watches of this line to feature an off-centred seconds sub-dial. Adding to their exclusivity, each variant is limited to just 888 units. An homage to the Austin-Healey 100S NOJ393—depicted on the caseback Following the tradition of paying tribute to different cars manufactured by Austin-Healey, the new 2021 launches within the Vintage Rally collection are an homage to one of the most famous and valuable cars by the brand—the 100S Prototype, with the registration number NOJ393. Constructed in 1953, it was one of four ‘special test cars’ to be used by the factory racing team and one of only two that were later converted to 100S specifications. The car rose to prominence after its spectacular performance in the 1953 and 1954 editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans—an endurance-focused sports car race held annually near Le Mans, France. However, during the Le Mans of 1955, the NOJ393 met with a horrible accident, resulting in the death of its driver and 83 spectators, while injuring 120 others. The incident became a watershed moment regarding the safety standards in international motorsports and led to several amendments in the rules and regulations of such events. After the incident, the NOJ393 was impounded by the French authorities, and 18 months later, it was returned to its manufacturers. Austin-Healey then restored the car and sold it in the private market. In 2011, it once again came into the limelight as it was auctioned by Bonhams, a British auction company, for a whopping $1.3 million (approximately ₹9.65 crore today), which was far above the pre-auction estimate of $783,550 (approximately ₹5.82 crore today). It’s this legacy and prominence that the new Vintage Rally Healey Automatic Small Seconds recognises and admires. Limited editions of 888 pieces each—in plain or rose gold-plated steel If the Vintage Rally collection has seen many wonderful breakaways in its time, 2021 is one of the few years to produce not just one, but three editions of these vintage-inspired watches. Authenticated by the original Healey logo marked on the dial, these Vintage Rally Healey Automatic Small Seconds watches are fittingly in short supply, with only 888 pieces of each one available. Housed in a 40mm case, the new iterations do not deviate much from their predecessors. All three variants are constructed from stainless steel; one of them with rose gold plating. Each version is flawlessly polished and offers a simple yet elegant design. MRP: ₹1,35,500 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028882) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( The dial with retro appeal, a small seconds sub-dial and date display The most significant update comes with the dial. Unlike the previous iterations that displayed the seconds via a central hand, the new timepieces consist of a small seconds sub-dial, neatly placed at the nine o’clock position, while a date aperture is at three. This lends the watch an added touch of retro charm, which complements the overall theme of the watches. The dial also features a central, two-hand timekeeping system, in addition to the oversized numerals located at 12 and six, which are staples of the Vintage Rally collection. Also, a small difference between the plain steel and rose gold-plated editions is that the hour indices and timekeeping hands of the latter are displayed in a rose gold hue too. An automatic Swiss-made calibre within The watches are powered by Frederique Constant’s FC-345 calibre, which is based on the Sellita SW-200 and offers a minimum power reserve of 38 hours with a frequency of 28,800vph. The movement is hidden behind a solid caseback, featuring a flawless engraving of the iconic NOJ393. The flagship version with a dial in British racing green, and perforated strap in brown leather The green version is probably the most iconic of all. Extending across the whole dial, this particular shade, called British racing green, alludes to the legendary colour of the Austin-Healey company. A study in contrast and a return to the roots of one of the most iconic rally car colours, 'British racing green' has long been associated with the vintage Austin Healeys that are especially desirable among collectors now. For this model, Frederique Constant has opted for luminescent silvered applique hour markers with the six and the 12 being more generously proportioned—one of the distinguishing features of the Vintage Rally collection. The perforated strap has received particular attention; on this 'racing green' model, it comes in brown leather. Not found anywhere else on the watch, this colour also recalls the upholstery of the beautiful cars from the 1940s to the 1970s, as well as the gloves worn by gentlemen drivers in their element. Modern and understated, the dial and strap are both mid-grey. The piece is characterised by its shades of grey, the steel case, leather strap, dial, index hour markers and hands included. Every aspect of its exterior takes on a reflection of its own, as you’ll discover on making your own way along winding roads on a sunny day. The last version is supposed to be the most classic, aligned as it is with the fine watchmaking that Frederique Constant has always championed in Geneva. The case is rose gold plated, as are the hour markers, hands and crown. This sunny shade of gold really sets off the midnight blue of the dial and the leather strap. Day and night, the classic and classy elegance of the latest Vintage Rally Healey Automatic Small Seconds shines through.
