Titanium, and a strap made from recycled plastic. Introducing the Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec

Titanium, and a strap made from recycled plastic. Introducing the Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec in black For sports enthusiasts, for adventurers, and for a good cause, we present the all-black ScubaTec Following the wave that the Black Manta Special Edition made in 2019, the Patravi ScubaTec family is welcoming a new member. Carl F. Bucherer’s new diver’s watch is striking, powerful, resilient—and dressed in deep black. Thanks to its water resistance of 50 bar (or 500m) and certified chronometer precision, it is up for any adventure above or below water. With this new timepiece, Carl F. Bucherer are demonstrating their commitment to preserving the oceans and rare manta rays as part of their long-standing partnership with the Manta Trust. The watch brand also rely on sustainable materials in the process. Let’s take a closer look at how. The edgy, angular case design, in all-black DLC-treated titanium The new Patravi ScubaTec Black features impressive resilience, excellent technology, and outstanding functionality. Its ultra-light 44.6mm titanium case has a matt, black DLC coating. DLC stands for ‘diamond-like carbon’, which is a sturdier coating than PVD or ‘physical vapour deposition’. With an angular case structure, and chiselled features, the case has an edgy appearance. It comes fitted with a unidirectional-rotating diver’s bezel, which is also in black DLC-coated titanium. The bezel is equipped with a scratch-resistant ceramic insert, featuring a 60-minute timer scale, and luminous markers. The ScubaTec Black is dedicated to protecting the oceans, and to the brand’s partnership with the Manta Trust charitable organisation. Carl F. Bucherer have been cooperating with the Trust for many years to help conserve manta rays and their habitats. “With the new model in our ScubaTec collection, we are once again underscoring the importance for Carl F. Bucherer, of our long-standing partnership with the Manta Trust and the protection of the oceans,” says Sascha Moeri, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer. Dr Guy Stevens, CEO of the Manta Trust, has been delighted about the strengthening of the Trust’s partnership with the Lucerne-based watch manufacturer. “Thanks to Carl F. Bucherer’s commitment, we have the chance to take a crucial step closer to our goal—securing the future of manta rays on a lasting basis in a healthy and diverse marine ecosystem.” A strap made partly from recycled plastic retrieved from the ocean “The idea of sustainability, which is integral to our company philosophy, is expressed in the production process of the new variant,” Moeri states. He then goes on to explain how this product represents sustainability. “The textile insert of the black rubber strap is made completely from recycled plastic bottles recovered from the ocean. This allows every timepiece and every buyer to actively contribute to the responsible use of our resources.” Finely-decorated, yet perfectly legible—the ScubaTec’s clear and crisp display The black dial of the Patravi ScubaTec features a self-coloured pattern that gives it a certain resplendence, but with nuance. From a distance, it just adds to the visual depth of the display, lending textural splendour, with fine subtlety. The black, finely structured dial is adorned with applied black hour markers that are shaped to give off a radial appearance, be it the straight lines or the triangular indices. These markers feature an ample coating of Super-LumiNova in blue, which allows for readability even in the dark. The hour and minute hands are also rather wide, enhancing clarity. While the former is fully coated with Super-LumiNova, the latter is partially skeletonised and features lume only on its pointer, just like in the seconds hand. The same blue luminescence can be seen in the Super-LumiNova dot that marks 60 minutes on the bezel. The highly legible dial also has a date window at three o’clock. With its screw-down crown and automatic helium-release valve, it is ideal for underwater adventures—as its water resistance to 500m would suggest. It is reliably powered by the CFB 1950.1 automatic calibre that runs autonomously for up to 38 hours after being fully wound. The movement comes with the promise of extraordinary precision, as certified by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres—the independent Swiss chronometer testing institute). Each watch is accompanied with its individual COSC certificate. A rugged, handsome and robust diver’s watch for a worthy cause With marine life of all kinds being threatened by pollution and plastic, it’s necessary for individuals and organisations to do their bit in trying to protect the ocean as an integral part of our ecosystem. The manta ray is a part of that delicate ecosystem that needs to be protected. And Carl F. Bucherer’s constant support of the Manta Trust’s efforts towards helping the manta ray is admirable. This Patravi ScubaTec Black is joining a strong collection of watches that represent that cause and help support it. Further to that, it is also a very impressive timepiece, which presents the hugely popular ‘stealth’ trend of dark, matt surfaces and designs with edgy silhouettes. With its tremendous water resistance, crystal-clear display and certified accuracy, this chronometer dive watch certainly is the complete package, and represents some of the best work by the Swiss watch manufacturer.
