A timepiece that is quite ‘out of this world’, adding a whole new dimension to timekeeping. [View this email in your browser]( Urwerk’s UR Satellite SpaceTime Gunmetal Limited to 25 pieces worldwide Today, even though brands are innovating at a faster pace than ever before to keep up with the expectations of discerning consumers, there’s sometimes a certain lack of showmanship. If you’re looking for that zest and verve that you’ve been missing, the timepieces from Swiss watchmaker Urwerk would be just right for you. Watches from Urwerk take watchmaking savoir faire, and push the envelope as far as the paper can fold. Founded in 1997 with the goal of designing and crafting haute horlogerie pieces that epitomise the perfect fusion of tradition and a futuristic vision, Urwerk derives its name from the town of Ur in Mesopotamia and ‘werk’ which, in German, stands for work in the form of creating, evolving, shaping, forging, and arousing emotions. Having forayed into the world of watches as a group of artists who were keen to interpret time in a different manner, Urwerk’s creations blend mechanical fine watchmaking with the spirit and culture of our times. A watch that connects Urwerk with the heavenly origins of timekeeping in a way is the Urwerk UR Satellite SpaceTime GunMetal—a mesmerising timepiece that reminds us to look to the skies for some well-needed inspiration. [Discover the Urwerk UR Satellite SpaceTime Gunmetal]( Design that is fascinating | A spaceship on your wrist If you are the kind of person who’s captivated by the night sky and you think about your place in this vast, vast universe, then the Urwerk UR-100 SpaceTime Gunmental will surely suit your fancy. Derived from Urwerk’s SpaceTime models, this timepiece comes in a limited edition of only 25 pieces. The shape of the watch is reminiscent of alien spaceships that one might see in a comic book or a sci-fi movie. The angular case in titanium and stainless steel, with a PVD gunmetal finish, comes with a domed sapphire crystal glass. Despite being packed to the brim with out-of-this-world features, the case measuring 41mm by 49.7mm, sits rather comfortably on the wrist. The crown of this timepiece is located at 12 o’clock, which makes for easy winding, while the exhibition caseback has quite a unique look. The full rotor is visible here, as is the planetary turbine system that ensures protection from over-winding, along with wear and tear. The astronomical distance indicators will intrigue any horological aficionado, with the scale at 10 o’clock showing the distance travelled by the Earth’s rotation on its own axis, which is 555km every 20 minutes, while the scale at two o’clock indicates the distance travelled by the Earth around the sun, which is 35,740km in the same time. [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp.]( Rotation around the Earth and revolution around the sun The Urwerk UR 100 has three satellites, with each one carrying a red arrow. As one satellite shows the time the other two are on the left and right showing the wearer's position in space-time. The UR-100 arrows pass beneath and between subsidiary dials reappearing to display the distance travelled due to rotation of the Earth in 20 minutes on the left-hand side and the distance travelled around the sun in 20 minutes on the right. The iconic ‘satellite’ display The numerals of the watch are dressed in neon green, lending a ‘cosmic’ touch to the watch. Like all of Urwerk’s Satellite timepieces, here too we have wandering hours and minutes. A carousel with three ‘satellites’—each with three numerals—travels around the display to tell time. What sets this timepiece apart is that it displays the hours with three rotating orbital satellites; alongside a red pointer on each of the three satellites that indicates the minutes. The hour and minute indicators are both finished with Super-LumiNova, and the distance is displayed in bright white. [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp.]( The heart of this unconventional timepiece Ticking within the UR-100 is the self-winding UR 12.01 movement, with a bidirectional rotor that is governed by a profiled airscrew known as the windfänger (German for ‘wind catcher’). It vibrates at a frequency of 28,800vph and promises a power reserve of 48 hours. The creation of this movement itself required two years of intensive research and development. [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp.]( The planetary ‘Turbine Automatic’ system The self-winding mass is regulated by Urwerk’s latest generation of turbines: the planetary 'Turbine Automatic' system. This interstellar beauty is worn on a fabric strap A handsome, woven fabric strap helps in balancing the look of this otherworldly-looking watch, for more conservative connoisseurs of the horological world. The muted grey colour of the strap looks fetching against the gunmetal hue of the case. [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp.]( A limited edition of 25 pieces worldwide While the astronomical indications that this limited edition watch presents might not have any functional use in one’s day-to-day life, sometimes it’s okay to forego utilitarianism. After all, this watch can not only tell us the time, but also show us how we’re a small part of the celestial dance that the Earth performs around the sun.
