The finest new watches and trends from arguably the most influential watch fair - Salon Internationa

The finest new watches and trends from arguably the most influential watch fair - Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie The 10 best watches launched at SIHH 2019 | Panerai, Parmigiani, IWC, Graham, Jaeger-LeCoultre and more The 10 greatest upcoming watches in 2019 from SIHH The Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, or SIHH, is the world’s most exclusive gathering in the watch industry. It began in 1991 as a showcase for five brands that decided not to exhibit their latest collections at Baselworld, and has since gone on to become the epicentre for announcing what’s new at the pinnacle of modern-day horology. SIHH 2019 saw 35 brands showcase their new watches, each representing the state of the art, as far as watchmaking ingenuity and innovation go. The brands unveiled their top pieces for 2019 and this time, we got to see a lot on offer, not just for the connoisseur but for the value buyer as well. The good news is that many of the exceptional new models that debuted are on their way to India, and we would like you to reserve yours, even before they arrive anywhere else! The Ethos team was there to cover the event and we have shortlisted the best watches launched at SIHH and at off-site presentations, where manufacturers such as Graham and Nomos showcased a few of their 2019 novelties as well. From six-figure complication pieces to striking new dials, these are the best new timepieces ringing in the new year and the newest in watchmaking from Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, H. Moser & Cie, Parmigiani, Baume & Mercier, Girard-Perregaux, IWC, Roger Dubuis and more. Parmigiani Fleurier gets the formula just right with the Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde Slate. The slate-colored guilloché dial is the star of the show. Hand guilloché is an artisanal technique, one which few manufactures have mastered so completely, in which the material is engraved to produce a repeating decorative pattern. The Toric Hémisphères Rétrograde Slate has two independent time zone indicators, each accurate to the nearest minute. The crown at two o'clock is used to independently adjust the module controlling the second time zone indicator. Once the settings are complete and the crown is pressed in, the module is coupled to the movement again, and the two time zones are synchronised. MRP: ₹25,92,000. It is undoubtedly their most recognisable watch and the reversible case for polo players was a true innovation when it came out in 1931. The real eye-catcher is the new Tribute Small Seconds with a deep, luscious wine-red dial. The intriguing hue immediately attracts the eye. Deep red in color, it imbues the new Reverso Tribute Small Seconds with a special aura. As audacious as it is mysterious, the model proudly displays its aesthetic codes with extreme refinement. The dial is uncluttered and has design elements that connect it with its origins. The case, too, is dimensionally similar to the 80th anniversary Tribute to 1931 model, which is a favourite with purists. The iconic Reverso continues to inspire those who design it, and adorn those who wear it without ever wanting to take it off. MRP: ₹5,65,000. However, not everyone will know that Mike Horn, the world-renowned explorer has been a Panerai admirer and a friend of the brand for over 15 years. Fast forward to SIHH 2019 and there are a couple of new Mike Horn Submersibles with a very distinct look. In 2019 Panerai has adopted an eco-friendly approach as the first luxury watch to ever feature EcoTitanium construction—that’s been sourced directly from the scrap yards of major aircraft manufacturers. This variant boasts a light, strong and resistant black strap that’s made from recycled PET (plastic) to minimise the effects on the environment. This green initiative extends to packaging, which is also made of recycled material. On the face, the watch features green luminescent markings on the dial and bezel. MRP: ₹13,03,000. Even this year, the new Spitfire line from Schaffhausen was the highlight of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer's appearance at SIHH. The Spitfire, designed by Reginald J Mitchell, is one of the most sophisticated developments in the history of aviation. 'Vintaged', smaller than the previous Pilot’s chronograph, equipped with a new manufacture movement and with a cool green-and-bronze combination, this Spitfire made quite an impression on us. Over time, the bronze case develops a special patina, making each and every watch a unique piece. MRP: ₹4,22,000. The Tonda 1950 Rainbow features 36 baguette-cut stones selected and arranged according to their precise shade to gradually recreate the entire spectrum of a rainbow. This version features twenty-one sapphires in shades of pink, blue, yellow and orange, three rubies, six tsavorites and six amethysts, with a total weight of 3.73 carats. The Tonda 1950 Rainbow is exclusively available with a white mother-of-pearl dial. The delta-shaped hands are skeletonised with a gilded outline, which echoes the rose gold-plated indices. Remarkably, the Tonda 1950 Rainbow remains an ultra-thin model despite its richly stone-set bezels. These slender proportions are made possible by the PF701 calibre, which is just 2.6 mm thick. Endeavour Tourbillon Concept Cosmic Green A marvel of ingenuity with minimalist beauty enhancing the fumé dial and an eye-catching flying tourbillon H. Moser & Cie. is once again blending genres, offering a sporty reinterpretation of the tourbillon, a resolutely modern and contemporary version of the traditional complication par excellence. The tourbillon, a complex mechanism with both technical and aesthetic appeal, has been revisited by H. Moser & Cie., highlighting its very essence: a fumé dial, dressed in the finest Cosmic Green, two leaf-shaped hands for the hours and minutes, and, at 6 o'clock, a one minute flying tourbillon produced in module form. For the Swiss manufacturer, it is the details that make all the difference. This design, the power of which is reinforced by the absence of both logo and indices on the dial, accentuates the visual impact of the tourbillon. It is an ode to simplicity where only the essential remains: 100% traditional Swiss watchmaking, resolutely contemporary and utterly seductive. MRP: ₹55,20,000. Endeavour Tourbillon Concept Cosmic Green]( Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic Cadran Bleu The Baumatic Chronometer with a 5-day power reserve, now in a bold and mysterious Cadran Bleu dial Last year at SIHH, Baume & Mercier had introduced a new Baumatic with their first in-house chronometer movement—the BM12. This year, the next generation BM13 is here, and it’s made a splashing debut in an all-new blue gradient dial featuring the same classical good looks with a splash of colour. The self-winding Baumatic movement ensures optimal reliability. In addition to 120 hours (five days) of autonomy, Clifton Baumatic watches offer great chronometric precision (-4/+6 seconds per day for the COSC-certified models). These models only require maintenance and service once every seven years. Any high watchmaking aficionado will appreciate these remarkable achievements. MRP: ₹2,40,000. For more information regarding availability and other details, please call: [+91 8725028894](tel:8725028894) or [+91 8725016301](tel:8725016301). And even though Maurice Lacroix is a relatively new player in the watch world, it strikes the perfect balance of creativity and wearability like some of the biggest watch manufacturers. At first glance, the 2019 Aikon Mercury appears to be a normal watch, with central hours and minutes and small seconds at the six o’clock position. With the slightest tilt, however, the hour and minute hands spin freely, abandoning their chronometric duties. Hold the Aikon Mercury upright, and the hands fall back to give the correct time. This is the secret of the Aikon Mercury. Like time, it slips away when you’re not paying attention. Like time, it reasserts itself when you need it. MRP: ₹6,07,000. For more information regarding availability and other details, please call: [+91 8725028894](tel:8725028894) or [+91 8725016301](tel:8725016301). It’s a pretty niche target group among potential watch lovers, but it’s a nice thought, and a very nice graduation present. Now it’s gotten a lot nicer with the introduction of the German watchmaker’s first steel bracelets. The Club Campus Neomatik 39 has a California dial—an odd design notion for a Bauhaus-inspired watch brand but one we can’t help but love. Secondly, it comes with Nomos’ in-house DUW 3001 automatic movement. Classically-sized 39mm with a white dial and blue numerals, the sporty watch is fitted with the first ever metal bracelet Nomos has produced, and it’s a lovely one. Thin, elegant and tactile, it wears as nicely as any strap can; better than many, in fact. It’s a small change—and one that’s long overdue—but works perfectly on the equally slim Club Campus timepieces. MRP: ₹2,49,425. For more information regarding availability and other details, please call: [+91 8725028894](tel:8725028894) or [+91 8725016301](tel:8725016301). The Graham Chronofighter Vintage Aircraft Flying Tigers celebrates the work of the elite flying corps, the First American Volunteer Group (AVG). The watch is limited to only 88 pieces, granting it a notable degree of exclusivity. Furthermore, its striking appearance makes it stand out from the crowd thanks to a complex dial and ‘aged case’. Consistent with its siblings, this sturdy timepiece features modern hour and minute hands. The hands are lined with white SuperLuminova, aiding legibility in dim light against a green, grained surface with a ‘radial gradient’. The Graham Chronofighter Vintage Aircraft Flying Tigers measures a significant 44mm in diameter, equipped with the Calibre G1747 automatic movement which is visible via the exhibition caseback. While Graham’s iconic trigger mechanism is prominent, it sits parallel with the arm, preventing gouging or chafing. The Graham Chronofighter Vintage Aircraft Flying Tigers brims with character, upholding Graham’s reputation for crafting individual, thought-provoking watches. MRP: ₹4,50,000.
