A visual treat of rainbow hues inspired by a natural phenomenon and created entirely by laser. The Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser Presenting the Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser Oris introduces the watchmaking world's first-ever lasered dial in the latest ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser With myriad tiny components put together like a minute jigsaw puzzle by seasoned crafts-persons with forceps-wielding gloved fingers expertly moving parts that can only be measured in millimetres, mechanical watchmaking is a serious business. Oris has, over the years, consciously focused on improving the movements, one tiny component at a time. The brand’s latest release is the ProPilot X Calibre 400 Laser edition, which takes this edgy and super-cool pilot’s watch collection into another dimension, with its iridescent titanium dial achieved by multiple lasering techniques and changes colour when viewed from different angles, offering shades of green, blue and violet—the lower half of the rainbow spectrum. This is the first time such a lasering technique has been used to create a watch dial and the result is absolutely marvellous, perhaps even the best version of the ProPilot X Calibre 400 so far. First-ever in the watch world Oris has collaborated with a research lab affiliated to one of the world’s leading science and technology research universities, ETH Zürich, a school that is widely regarded for its innovation. This is the first time that this revolutionary laser technology has been applied to creating a dial, and the kaleidoscopic dial is undoubtedly the hero of the watch. The most interesting aspect of this new dial is that there is no pigmentation or addition of colour in any form. It’s all biomimicry, almost as if one’s eyes were playing tricks on the mind. “Everything is achieved via a laser treatment that changes the watch’s titanium dial in such a way that the light waves that get reflected back to your eyes only contain a certain spectrum of the visible light, and therefore give you an impression of colour,” says Siegrist, product development engineer at Oris. The text, minute track, and long, slim indexes have also been created using laser technology that looks like it has a three-dimensional effect. Sword-shaped hands are filled with black Super-LumiNova, aiding legibility in the dark. This occurrence, seen in soap bubbles or a layer of oil on water, takes place when light waves overlap, and while some elements of the wave get heightened, others get cancelled. “If a certain range—the longer red waves, for example—gets destroyed, only the medium green and shorter blue waves get reflected. It’s colour creation by addition,” explains Richard ‘Ipy’ Siegrist, product development engineer at Oris. “We’ve also added a second layer that splits the visible light into its components and creates a shimmering rainbow effect.” MRP: ₹4,90,000 For more information, please call our Luxury Watch Helpline on [+91 8725028899](tel:08725028899), [+91 8725028882](tel:08725028883) [Click here to connect with us on WhatsApp]( Titanium makes it an even bigger crowd-pleaser The ProPilot X is constructed from titanium—keeping it light in weight, yet very durable. The finishing includes satin and sandblasted surfaces. The design is very striking and versatile, with a very clean appearance, and a stunning display. The 39mm case is water resistant up to 100m and at that size, it’s suitable for practically anyone. Completing the look is the slinky titanium bracelet, with a patented ‘lift’ system. Very practical, easy to wear, very easy on the eyes, and high-performing in nature, the ProPilot X Calibre 400 is a brilliant new addition to the Big Crown collection—one that was definitely needed in Oris’s aviation pillar. Visible through the exhibition case-back, this innovative calibre boasts a massive power reserve of five full days. Oris has also tackled anti-magnetism very well by using more than 30 non-ferrous (not containing iron) and anti-magnetic components, including a silicon escape wheel and a silicon anchor in this movement. The brand offers a warranty of 10 years, which also means that the intervals between servicing could be as long as a decade, exhibiting the brand's confidence in the product. Innovations such as the lasered kaleidoscopic dial are what pave the way for independent brands in the horological world. For having developed such a cool idea and for creating such a beautiful application for it, the brand deserve kudos.
