The Tab Ultra C—a 10.3 inch tablet from an obscure electronic reader company called Onyx Boox—arrived in my mailbox a few weeks ago, and I still can’t believe it exists. It's a full-fledged E Ink computer that runs on Android software, works with bluetooth keyboards, comes with a stylus, and somehow, the screen is full color. It. Does. Everything. But most of all, because it's E Ink, it doesn't hurt your eyes. Finally, I can take off those blue light-blocker glasses. The Tab Ultra C takes the concept of electronic reading and supercharges it. And of course, instead of taking up space in your desk drawer, everything can be saved digitally, or to whatever cloud service you prefer. The future, folks. Boyce, now 32 years old, went by "L-Boy" back then, pranking unsuspecting people alongside a young Tyler, the Creator. So, it's a little funny that on a chaotic series like FX's The Bear, Boyce has found himself playing the most sensitive and silent character in the ensemble: Marcus, the kind-hearted pastry chef. Just before The Bear's return last week, Boyce dished on his expanded role this season, filming Episode Four in Copenhagen, and how he manages to look like a real chef when he's working the dough. It is a mirror as well of the times in which we live, of the places where we look for grace. Where once we found solace in our dazzling contradictions, in the way we pick ourselves up from the pratfalls we take, now comfort flows in a colder vein, in the stern, conscientious energy with which we purge temptation in the first place, in the vigilant avoidance of danger. For the philanderer, getting caught is the second-worst thing that can happen.
