[Click here]( [Erin Hanson - Landscapes in Oil]( [ORIGINALS]( | [PRINTS]( | [B]([OOKS]( FRESH from the EASEL & Tales from the Road Erin just returned from two weeks on what she calls a "photo safari." I was able to shadow her for a few days of her trek and catch a rare glimpse at the magic behind the scenes of her popular paintings. I knew light was pivotal. I knew she shot at sunrise and sunset. I knew she always had a clear vision of what she was looking for in the landscape. But it was impressive to experience her in action. Watching her paint is almost like watching a major league baseball game. You know there is incredible talent behind every motion and move, but it looks pretty casual. Watching her capture the inspiration for her works was more like watching a football game. Or a Rocky movie training montage. She would wake up well before sunrise every morning and cheerfully race to the van. We were off. I can safely say she knows most of the California coast like the back of her hand. I can’t tell you how many times I thought a view was drop-dead gorgeous, and she said to give it ten minutes… she wouldn’t even bother to take a picture… she would then race to another side or a hill or bluff, THEN return to that spot and, as she said, it was luminous ten minutes later. She was all about capturing what she called "side lighting." She fully fell into the water at one point, and we were both exhausted with VERY frizzy hair... but we experienced the California coast from Oxnard to Carmel-by-the-Sea at its very best. Someone was talking about how Erin “chases the light” at her recent museum reception, and I thought that was such a beautiful way to put it. Then I saw her quite literally sprinting to the light. Chasing is a more eloquent word, but it is more of a sprint or "mad dash." I thought it would be fun to show you just a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at where her work come from. You can scroll down to see the Instagram video below. It is fun. It is passionate. And it is art at its finest. Enjoy! Amy (marketing + sister-in-law) P.S. The wild purple thistles and rolling California hills create an idyllic landscape that your eye can roam through endlessly. Thick brush strokes and abstract color choices capture the essence of wildflower beauty. The brush strokes are loose and expressive, alive with vivacity and color. [SUNFLOWERS IV]( [Make an Offer]( Point Sur Original Oil Painting by Erin Hanson 2023 32 x 22 in After exploring California's Highway 1 up and down countless times, I have picked out my favorite section of coastline -- just north of Point Sur (which is between Big Sur and Carmel.) This coastline has everything: expansive white sandy beaches, crystal aquamarine waters, and rocky outcroppings casting long blue shadows. It has everything I love about creating coastal paintings. [POINT SUR]( [Make an Offer]( Green Vines Original Oil Painting by Erin Hanson 2023 16 x 20 in Waiting patiently for the sun to rise in Paso Robles, California, paid off with this stunning color display of oranges, purples, and pinks. The coastal fog faded away, and the sun rose over the idyllic wine country of central California. This painting captures the morning color with thick, impressionist brush strokes of oil paint.
