What are your favorite colors of summer? I hope you enjoy my newest paintings below! Warmly, Erin F R E S H from the E A S E L Mt Hood, 30 x 40 in Mt Hood peeks over the layers of evergreens, glowing a dusky hue of majestic purple in the fiery, sunset sky. This bold painting captures all the beauty of the northwest with thick, impressionistic brush strokes. Also available as a [3D Textured Replica]( & [Canvas Print](. [Shop: MT HOOD]( [AVAILABLE ORIGINALS]( Ojai Poppies, 48 x 24 in These large white Matilija poppies from Ojai, California, are captured in impressionistic brush strokes and lively colors by modern impressionist Erin Hanson. The thick texture of the oil paint and confident brush strokes create a tapestry of color and texture across the canvas that keeps the eye ever-moving through the scene. [Shop: OJAI POPPIES]( [AVAILABLE ORIGINALS]( Desert Road, 40 x 50 in Dramatic monsoon clouds sweep over the desert mountains of northwestern Arizona. The highway winds between the dramatic shadows cast by the ever-moving clouds, disappearing into the distant mountain range. The brush strokes in this oil painting are thick and expressive, alive with color and energy. [Shop: DESERT ROAD]( [AVAILABLE ORIGINALS]( Crystal Grove II, 30 x 40 in Long shadows dance across the tall summer grass in this Open Impressionism painting of the Oregon countryside. This painting is part of Erin's classic "Crystal Light" series, inspired by crystalline, refracted light seen through tree branches. [Shop: CRYSTAL GROVE II]( [AVAILABLE ORIGINALS]( [Shop: NORTHWEST LUPIN]( [AVAILABLE ORIGINALS]( Erin Hanson in Japan, 2017. Q: I understand you are deeply inspired by van Gogh. Do you have any less-known Impressionist inspirations? [Erin Hanson] I love the Canadian impressionists The Group of Seven. I have also been inspired by Japanese brush paintings (which I often emulated in college), and some of my other favorite artists are Georgia O’Keeffe, Edgar Payne, and Andrew Wyeth. I get my daily inspiration directly from nature, however. The beauty of early dawn illuminating a National Park, quiet and calm in the off-season, is one of my favorite inspirations. I also love painting California wine country and rugged coastal landscapes. I am inspired by the shifting light and colors during the golden hours, the abstract shapes of unique tree formations, and glorious skies bursting with color. Impressionism is a great style to capture the feeling I get when I am out of doors: the loose brush strokes, impasto paint application, and vibrant colors perfectly express my love for landscapes.
