No images? [Click here]( FRESH FROM THE EASEL Coastal Pines, 36 x 50 in New Works for the Summer I am pleased to share my newest paintings, fresh from the easel. This summer has me dreaming of weekends at the beach and camping adventures. Do you have anything special planned for the summer? Enjoy, Erin Hanson OPEN IMPRESSIONISM COLORS of SUMMER Desert Clouds, oil on canvas, 50 x 36 in A summer sky bursts with color over the Four Corners region near Monument Valley. The impasto brush strokes capture the movement and joy of this colorful landscape. Wild Sunflowers, oil on canvas, 40 x 40 in Wild sunflowers grow in exuberant, frolicking clusters along the roadside in southern Utah. These hardy flowers provide a beautiful pop of color to the desert landscape. Coastal Range, oil on canvas, 26 x 48 in The coastal range bordering the Willamette Valley in Oregon transforms into a luminescent pattern of contrasting colors as the sun sets below the opposing mountain range. Rich hues of ultramarine blue, turquoise, and purple are layering into the fading distance. In the foreground, fields of early summer mustard plants are in bloom. Billows of Light, oil on canvas, 26 x 48 in Billowing cumulus clouds catch the fading sunlight, turning brilliant hues of cotton candy pink, sherbet orange, and butter yellow. Every minute brings a change of light and color, as the sun sets below the horizon. Wild Grass, oil on canvas, 26 x 34 in Waving strands of summer grass move gracefully before the coastal vista of blues and greens beyond. This painting captures the Pacific Coastline with thick, impressionistic brush strokes, alive with color and texture. Oak in Summer, oil on canvas, 36 x 50 in A stately oak spreads its wide branches out over the summer-gold fields. The distant hills roll away into the distance, turning hues of purple and green, illuminated by the warm, afternoon air. The thickly applied brush strokes are applied without layering, in the Open Impressionist style created by Erin Hanson. The painting has a stained glass effect that radiates light from within the oil painting. Oregon Sky, oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in The coastal range bordering the Willamette Valley in Oregon is most beautiful just before sunset, when each layer of the mountain range turns a distinct and separate shade of color. The purple mountains contrast beautifully with the yellow sky above. Cadmium Tulips, oil on canvas, 34 x 24 in Ruby red tulips bloom in Woodburn, Oregon. The overcast sky makes the colors of the flowers even richer and more saturated. Each brush stroke is thickly applied without layering, capturing the impressionistic beauty of the scene. She began commissioning paintings at age ten, and by age twelve she was employed after school by a mural studio, creating works on the grand scale of hundred-foot canvases. Two years later, a high school scholarship took her to Otis College of Art, where she immersed herself in figure drawing. Graduating high school at age sixteen, Hanson next attended UC Berkeley, pursuing a passion for Japanese brush painting while attaining a degree in bioengineering. After graduating from college in 2003, Hanson began painting professionally, gathering her inspiration from landscapes and vantage points beheld only by the most adventurous. Rock climbing among the brilliantly colored cliffs of Nevada and Utah provided the initial inspiration for her work. In these beautiful surroundings, watching the seasons and the light change daily across the desert, Hanson firmly dedicated herself to creating one oil painting every week for the rest of her life. She has held to that decision ever since and has spent nearly twenty years developing a unique, minimalistic technique of placing impasto brush strokes without layering, a style which has become known as “Open Impressionism.” Hanson’s explorations into the outdoors provide a constant source of inspiration for her work. She visits the Colorado Plateau every year, backpacking and hiking through areas such as Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, and Monument Valley. Over a decade ago, Hanson discovered the idyllic landscapes of Paso Robles, Carmel, and the nearby wine country and coastal regions. Now that she was relocated to Oregon wine country, she has become newly inspired by rolling vineyards, epic sunsets and dramatic mountains. She now passionately applies her painting technique to the diverse scenery of the Western states of beyond, transforming the landscapes she loves into abstract mosaics of color and texture. The Art of Texture Discover the cutting-edge technology of 3-D printing. Each 3-D Textured Replica captures the same brush strokes and colors as the original, using micro-layered 3D modeling and 48-bit color to create the most realistic painting reproductions available today.
