[ {NAME} — This past weekend our nation was devastated by back-to-back shootings across the country. The hearts and minds of our entire team are with the communities in Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Nebraska, and Louisiana who are recovering from tragic losses due to senseless gun violence. At a time when Americans are becoming vaccinated, and public life is starting to return to normal, I’m committed to denormalizing mass shootings. We need research and common-sense gun reforms that keep guns out of the hands of people who intend to inflict harm on our communities. We don’t know all the details of this past weekend’s tragedies, but we do know that taking actionable steps to limit the sale of powerful guns to bad actors who terrorize communities will curb the gun violence problem in this country. That means strengthening and expanding federal oversight with background checks, keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and repealing the Dickey Amendment, so we can adequately research the symptoms and causes of mass violent events. Our children deserve an America where they can live without fear of everyday mass shootings, and unfortunately, that’s not the reality they’re living in. I’m working with my colleagues across the aisle to create common-sense solutions that will protect our communities from senseless gun violence.
