Let’s stand together and recognize just how fragile our democracy is Dear friends, Today is the one year anniversary of the January 6th Insurrection at the United States Capitol. Almost 20 years ago, I was a staffer in Congress and evacuated from the Capitol on 9/11 as our nation was under attack. Watching the halls of Congress being invaded by people intending to do harm to our Representatives of both parties, and to deface the institution of our government is what motivated me to run for Congress in 2022. My hope is that such an event never happens again. Right-wing extremists are the greatest threat to our future, and unfortunately, the mainstream right wing media apparatus has enabled and empowered them for far too long. Threats of violence, claims of stealing elections, and bigotry have no place in the United States. We must work constantly to root out the causes of these dangerous ideologies. The Congressional Investigation of January 6th is ongoing. I’m shocked that elected Members of Congress are suspected of aiding the attackers, just as I will forever be ashamed and angered that a President of the United States encouraged such actions. We cannot become numb to the harsh realities that were highlighted by January 6, and we need to take these threats seriously. Like other pivotal points in our history, I believe that all Americans will remember where they were when they heard the disturbing news. We must use these memories to focus on the need to protect our democratic values and ensure that our institutions are defended from extremists. I’ll always stand on the side of our democracy and democratic institutions, and I hope to see progress to re-enforce our values and bring the January 6th attackers to justice.
