[Empire Financial Daily] When It Comes to AI, You Can't Trust Your Own Eyes By Kyle Wehrle --------------------------------------------------------------- ['Weird' Business Could Pay 10x in 12 months...]( This business doesn't make any products... It doesn't ship any products. It doesn't market any products. It doesn't own any technology. It generates millions of dollars of profit every year... with less than 100 employees... And even more amazing, it could soon pay off 10x over the next 12 months... [To see how this works, you must go here BEFORE midnight tomorrow, July 28](. --------------------------------------------------------------- Seeing is no longer believing... At least that's the message coming out of the White House. Last week, the Biden administration received voluntary commitments from OpenAI, Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL), Meta Platforms (META), Amazon (AMAZN), and other tech companies to enact safety measures for content generated by artificial intelligence ("AI"). AI has been all over the media this year, but the U.S. Senate only recently held a briefing titled "What Is AI?" last month as the rival Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis presidential candidates began airing AI-generated content to smear each other. DeSantis' images showed Trump hugging and kissing former White House medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci. Meanwhile, Trump's video showed DeSantis as the character Michael Scott from the sitcom The Office, in a scene where he's trying to convince his coworkers that he isn't wearing women's clothing. If you aren't familiar with the show, you might not know the AI-generated clip isn't the real thing if you aren't paying close attention... Here's a still image from the Trump video showing DeSantis as Michael Scott... As amusing as this content is on one level, it's terrifying on the other. Sure, DeSantis' outline looks a little off... But a few years from now, will that be the case? These fabricated videos, called "deepfakes," are manipulated videos and photos where a person's likeness is inserted into other media. Deepfakes have already been around for years prior to the recent AI frenzy, but the leaps in AI innovation have resulted in a wave of hyper-realistic ones. Furthermore, deepfakes are becoming effortless to make thanks to new AI image generators that can convert users' text into highly convincing images. No matter your political party, deepfakes could have a detrimental effect on our democracy... For these reasons, the Biden administration pressured AI companies like OpenAI, Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Anthropic, and Inflection into pledging their commitment to a new series of industry guardrails for AI development. Among other promises, the companies agreed to the following: - To allow security testing by outside experts - To conduct research on privacy and bias concerns - To share information between governments regarding the risks of AI - To follow transparency standards, like watermarks, for AI-generated content. Many companies eagerly agreed to the new standards. Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith attended the White House meeting and gave his endorsement... By moving quickly, the White House's commitments create a foundation to help ensure the promise of AI stays ahead of its risks. Sam Altman, the man behind OpenAI and its revolutionary "chatbot" ChatGPT, has also been wary of his creation... We've got to be careful here... I think people should be happy that we [OpenAI] are a little bit scared of this. --------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Link: [Billionaire's 'Secret Currency' Uncovered]( One of the richest men in the world has been quietly profiting from a "secret currency" over the past few years. It's got nothing to do with gold, gold coins, any sort of crypto, or likely anything you've ever heard about. But it IS all part of a trend Forbes called a "$100 trillion opportunity." And according to Pulitzer nominated journalist Michael Robinson, while this "secret currency" is flying under the radar for now... It could soon spread like wildfire. Handing anyone who stakes a claim in this "secret currency" today the opportunity of a lifetime. [Click here for all the details](.
--------------------------------------------------------------- But now that some AI safeguards are in place, should we feel safe? Probably not... The reality is that the agreed-upon commitments, as they stand, are too vague and open to interpretation... which makes enforcing them virtually impossible to enforce. Meanwhile, as much as we Americans fear AI getting out of hand, we're just as afraid of China getting ahead of us in developing the technology. Billionaire venture capitalist Marc Andreessen hit the nail on the head when he noted that his conversations about AI change from con to pro as soon as China is brought into the discussion... It's a completely different conversation... All of a sudden, it's like, 'Oh, well, we need American AI to succeed, and we need American technology companies to succeed, and we need to beat the Chinese.' It's no secret that authoritarian China views AI as its key to thought control over its vast population, mainly through usage of facial identification technology. Furthermore, for years, China has been exporting its tech-heavy authoritarian model to other countries – especially in impoverished regions of Africa. Logic dictates that China's AI oppression platform will only become more effective and easier to export to foreign despots. But China and the U.S. aren't the only nations acting on AI... The European Parliament is working on its own comprehensive list of rules for AI. If it passes, the "AI Act" will force companies to register various AI systems with authorities. Examples of AI systems requiring registration would include those for biometric identification, legal applications, and management of critical infrastructure. Furthermore, the AI Act would require that companies submit a summary of all copyrighted information that their AI is trained on (and perhaps face legal fees from artists). If this kind of rule becomes precedent across the globe, it could have huge implications for the development of AI, which requires huge data sets to learn from in order to create "new" content. Meanwhile, Altman and OpenAI reportedly lobbied European politicians to water down the AI Act. He even quipped that OpenAI would "cease operating" in the EU if necessary. Whatever your opinions on AI, buckle up for a contentious 2024 presidential election rife with fabricated footage, quotes, and more. Hopefully, we at least get those watermarks we've been promised... Regards, Kyle Wehrle
