Happy holidays from all of us at Orvis. Can't see images? [Charley, Hannah, and Simon Perkins share

Happy holidays from all of us at Orvis. Can't see images? [View Online]( [ORVIS©]( [Charley, Hannah, and Simon Perkins (from left) share a moment with Romi the black Lab at the Orvis home office in Vermont.] When we gather together as a family during the holidays, we always take time to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for. The themes are often the same—enjoying the special relationships with our customers, sharing inspiration with others, and doing our part to protect what we love—but we often find them in new stories. In October, we received a letter from a 10-year-old Colorado boy named Derek, and his note captured so much of what is important to us as a family and a company. He told us how he had started his fly-fishing journey with the purchase of an Encounter fly rod at the Orvis Denver store. Through his newfound relationship with Fishing Manager Andy Dmohowski, Derek learned the basics of the sport—things like tippet sizes, the differences between nymphs and streamers, and how to tie his own flies. Today, Derek has caught almost every species in Colorado. He shared how he has developed a fascination for product and hopes to one day work at an Orvis store so he can “carry on the kindness that [our] employees have shown [him].” His words are a great example of how our customers constantly inspire us to be better and aim higher. We found Derek’s letter humbling. His story is also meaningful in its description of the things that bring us the most gratitude and that drive us to develop products and offer services that inspire and celebrate meaningful connections in nature. That a 10-year-old could share these passions only strengthens our commitment to protecting these connections to nature for future generations. Over the past year, we have traveled to Washington, DC, to advocate for protecting Bristol Bay, Alaska; spent time with writers and conservationists in the Everglades to call attention to historically bad water issues; and held workshops with our associates to discuss how Orvis can have the biggest impact going forward. Your passion and loyalty fuel our “5% for Nature” program, which dedicates 5% of our pre-tax profits to conservation. Over the past 30 years, with your help, we have given more than $24 million to conservation efforts and organizations. We’re especially thankful that you have played such an important part in our commitment to protecting these connections to nature for future generations. To all of you this holiday season, thank you. You inspire us to be our best. Thanks for being part of our extended family, and we welcome you to join us in inspiring others to love and celebrate the adventure and wonder in nature. At Orvis, we have a saying: “The Great Awaits.” We hope that The Great finds you this holiday season in the form of special connections and meaningful moments in the outdoors with those most meaningful to you.
