When We Become Light
Notty Bumbo, 2016
I think often,
Strange as it seems,
About the origin of the light I see,
And what it really means,
To be so far away from home,
To travel without end,
Mostly in a line quite straight,
Though occasionally to bend,
And never have an aim nor design
Toward which these photons dream,
But simply shoot across the night,
Following the endless stream.
Perhaps I'll have a chance one day
To flame across the dark,
And cause some watcher to exclaim
At the destiny of my spark.
