News and who’s who from the desk of ELLE DECOR editor in chief Asad Syrkett ? Confession: I

[View in Browser]( [Elle Decor Obsessed ]( News and who’s who from the desk of ELLE DECOR editor in chief Asad Syrkett   Confession: I’m writing this newsletter from the air, en route to Europe ahead of Milan Design Week and Salone del Mobile, the Italian capital of commerce’s annual furniture fair. By some measures, the whole event is ELLE DECOR’s Super Bowl—if the Super Bowl were in Italy’s capital of commerce, in April, and had David Lynch as a halftime show headliner (more on that later). I would have tackled this a *bit* sooner, but the days leading up to this lightly orgiastic, weeklong fete of all things furniture, lighting, and textiles are a real marathon, to, uh, use a different sports metaphor. My team and I comb over the dozens of invitations we receive to exhibitions, installations, pop-ups, and unspecified “evenings” to bring you, dear reader, more of what we know you love: the leading decorating trends, the hottest design-world news and gossip, and more inspiration than you could possibly Pinterest (though we don’t underestimate the appetite there).   [Alternate text]( The Best Luxury Hotels in Milan [Alternate text]( [Travel Essentials That Our Editors Swear By]( [Alternate text]( [A Chic Person’s Guide to Shopping in Milan]( [Alternate text]( [These 12 Family-Run Companies Are the Beating Heart of Italian Design]( There’s the editorial prep we do in surveying the scenes to come, but there’s also my personal prep: If you’re wondering, I’m a carry-on-only flier and generally travel with one small [Rimowa cabin bag](—mine is green, natch—and this incredibly versatile [Marni shopper tote](, which fits one pair of shoes, toiletries, and a few copies of our latest issue with little drama. Insider tip: If you’re looking for well-designed travel accessories, please do not sleep on Muji and Hay; my Nathalie du Pasquier-for-Hay dopp kit, for example, in a chic, irregular polka dot, has served me very well for nearly a decade. [This one](, from Dior, has been good to me, too.   So stay tuned this week for [Milan Design Week]( dispatches from me and my team. We’re on the ground, coming to you live. Plus, I’ll be using this three-part diary series to bring you some insider tips from a few friends of ELLE DECOR’s who call Milan home and are true experts when it comes to the city’s best haunts.   Before you dig in, some promo: If you’re thinking, “Hey, this is nice; a little personal time with the editor in chief of ELLE DECOR,” you should really sign up for our membership program, [ELLE DECOR All Access](. In it, we’re engaging with other design lovers and decorating obsessives at a level we aim to make more than wallpaper deep, bringing you exclusive stories, gorgeous [home tours](, and lots more—stripping the world of ELLE DECOR down to the studs, if you will.
