The small-cap Russell 2K sold off for a 1.2% loss. Futures are up in early premarket trading. S&P 500 contracts are up by nearly half a point. [See His Top Picks Here]( Premarket Highlights ð ð Earnings Season Rolls On Strong Q2 results continue to fuel the stock market's hot streak. Here are some of the latest updates: ð² Chevron [CVX] profits declined to just $6 billion in Q2, down significantly from the record-breaking $11.6 billion it reported a year ago. ð² Exxon [XOM] earned $7.9 billion in Q2, but its numbers were also down substantially compared to last year, when high energy prices caused a spike in profits for the oil company. ð² Proctor & Gamble [PG] reported a decline in sales volume, but higher prices and improved margins helped the company make up for the slowdown. ð² Intel [INTC] is gaining after posting a surprise profit of $0.13 per share. Consensus estimates called for a loss of $(0.03) per share. What to Watch Today ð Inflation Data
For as much attention as CPI gets, you'd think it was the country's main inflation gauge. In fact, most Fed policymakers pay much more attention to a different metric, PCE or Personal Consumption Expenditures. Today, we'll get new PCE Index data from June, and it could have a major impact on today's market. June's CPI reading showed inflation at just 3.0%. If we see similar numbers in the PCE report, I expect we'll see some positive momentum in today's session. However, any signs that inflation is going the wrong way could significantly damper today's trading session. Major Earnings ð° Exxon Mobil Corporation [XOM] ... AM

The mid-cap solar firm reported its Q2 earnings after Thursday's close, and the results surpassed expectations. First Solar generated EPS of $1.59 on sales of $810.7 million, marking substantial growth from a year earlier, when it posted $0.52 EPS on $621 million in sales. Both figures topped the consensus estimates of $0.94 EPS on sales of $719.4 million, so shares are getting a boost today. FSLR is leading the S&P 500 with an 11.2% gain. My Take: FSLR has been locked in a broad trading range since the start of the year, and it's already trading at an insane P/E of 514.49. I think there's more potential for downside than upside at this price point. Reata Pharmaceuticals [RETA] - Last Close: $108.55 Reata Pharma is soaring after a buyout deal announcement. The pharma firm has agreed to be acquired by Biogen [BIIB] in an all-cash deal valued at roughly $6.5 billion. Under the terms of the deal, Biogen will pay investors $172.50 for each share of RETA they own. The deal represents a 58.9% premium to RETA's closing price on Thursday. RETA is up 51.1% in early premarket trading. My Take: Great deal for RETA shareholders, but there's not a lot of upside left on the table. Shares are trading for $164 at the time of writing. SIGA [SIGA] - Last Close: $5.09 SIGA is running hot after unveiling a major government contract. Thursday evening, the pharma firm announced a $138 million order for oral and IV TPOXX® from the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services. The government procurement order includes $113 million of oral TPOXX® and $25 million of the IV variant. SIGA says it expects to "fully deliver" the bulk of the order before the end of the year. SIGA is up 31.2%, and it's one of today's most active premarket stocks. My Take: SIGA doesn't have the most exciting business model, but it looks like a great value. Shares are down substantially this year, but it's landing a lot of deals. This could be setting up for a great swing trade opportunity. Homology Medicines [FIXX] - Last Close: $0.94 Homology Medicines is trending after several big announcements. After Thursday's close, the company made several announcements that could be the impetus for today's rally. Most notably, Homology Medicine announced encouraging initial data from first dose level in its PheEDIT trial of HMI-103. However, the company also said it plans to evaluate strategic options for the company and its genetic medicines program, including HMI-103. FIXX is up 23.4% on active trading volume in today's premarket. My Take: "Evaluating strategic options" is corporate speak for "explore a potential sale," more or less. FIXX could see a major spike if it can land a deal to sell either the company or some of its drug portfolio. That's it for today! Thanks for reading, and good luck out there!
