I hope you have a great day! Let's get ready to trade! Markets 📈 US benchmarks made modest advances on Monday after posting their worst weekly performance in 2023 last week. The Dow added 0.2%, and the S&P 500 gained 0.3%. The Nasdaq led the pack with a 0.6% gain, and the Russell 2K edged 0.3% higher. Futures are struggling ahead of today's opening bell. S&P 500 contracts are currently showing a 0.2% gain, but early morning trading volume appears to be bearish. The auto parts retailer released its Q4 results this morning and beat analyst's expecations. Advanced Auto's sales grew from $2.07 a year ago to $2.88 last quarter, which beat the consensus estimate of $2.42. Net sales also of $2.47 billion also increased from the year-earlier quarter and beat the Street's $2.42 billion target. The company also announced its CEO, Tom Greco, would retire at the end of the year. AAP is this morning's top S&P 500 stock with a 3.1% gain. My Take: AAP has had a rough run over the past week, but this rally may help it reverse course. The stock seems like a good value with an 18.04 P/E ratio. Mount Rainier Acquisition Co. [RNER] - Last Close: $5.05 Mount Rainier SPAC is rebounding from a steep sell-off on Monday. Shares of the blank-check firm tanked after it cancelled its general meeting on Sunday, sparking fears that investor might not pony up the necessary funds to close on a business combination. Earlier this year, shareholders approved a business combination with HUB Cyber Security, but the deal hasn't yet closed. RNER fell 46.2% yesterday in the wake of the rumors, but shares are rebounding in today's premarket. RNER is one of this morning's top performers with a 39.2% gain. My Take: It seems some investors believe the deal for HUB Cyber might still go through. If it does, RNER could see significant upside from its current price point. Intelligent Living Application Group [ILAG] - Last Close: $1.21 Intelligent Living Application Group is trending after a recent announcement. In Monday's after-market, the Hong Kong-based lockset manufacturer announced plans to launch a line of advanced home security devices. Intelligent Living said it plans to develop security devices incorporated with blockchain technology. The company also said it will work with to work with China Star Technology Ltd. to develop smart home products to compete in the IoT market. The late-Monday announcement is sending shares of ILAG higher in today's premarket. The stock is up 42.9% on active trading volume. My Take: ILAG's rally seems a bit exaggerated. Be cautious when approaching this trade because this stock could pull back at any moment. Catalyst Biosciences [CBIO] - Last Close: $0.24 Catalyst Biosciences is moving higher after announcing a key asset sale. Late Monday, the tiny biotech announced it had agreed to sell three programs relating to orphan hematology disorders to South Korea's GC Biopharma. One of the programs included in the deal is "Marzeptacog alfa (MarzAA)", which is ready to begin Phase 3 clinical stage development. GC Biopharma says it plans to continue development of these assets in pursuit of launching a first-in-class novel drug. Catalyst Bio's CEO, Nassim Usman, said the company is "pleased" to see GC Bio purchase the assets, but financial details of the transaction weren't disclosed. CBIO is one of this morning's top stocks with a 58.8% gain on the news, and it's trading actively in the premarket. My Take: CBIO is a very small float stock with a market cap of only $9.06 million. There may be some targeted market manipulation in play here because this move doesn't seem to be proportionate to the news. That's it for today! Thanks for reading, and good luck out there!
