Trump’s coming back to Michigan... here’s wh at it means

On Saturday, he is coming back for his 6th visit in less than a year. Last time Trump was here, he spewed a litany of lies and name-calling. He called me a "far left liberal lunatic," said that I am "not respected," and that I am "very big for China." He went on a wild rant about how the 2020 election was "rigged" — riling up his supporters with the kind of rhetoric that led to the insurrection at the Capitol and will have unknown consequences if he loses again in the fall. This time, he will rally his base at a far-right conference and, on the same day, host a roundtable event at a Black church — a signal that his campaign is focused on winning over Black voters in Detroit. It’s clear that Trump knows that he can’t win the presidency without winning Michigan – and he’s going to keep coming back to win over new voters and secure the state in November. But beyond what this visit will do for Trump’s campaign, let me break down how it will impact our Senate race. There is no doubt Trump's supporters are as fired up as ever before after his guilty verdict. So this trip will mean more fundraising in Michigan for Trump and Republicans, new exposure for them to Black voters in Detroit, but also more volunteers flooding into campaign offices around the state. These are the kind of things we have to factor in when putting together a plan for victory. So when Trump and the Republicans do more, we have to match them. And in a race as close as ours, we just can't afford to fall behind. That is one of the reasons we launched our television ads so early, because our potential opponents went on the air in their primary, and the increased Republican enthusiasm means we have to be communicating with undecided voters early. But we can't do any of that without the financial support of people who care about the outcome of this race.
