She switched from the French she was speaking to Spanish and asked me, “Are you 8 months along?!” “No, I’m 7 months,” I replied (in very slow and very broken Spanish). “Oh! Is this your second pregnancy?” she asked. < If you’re not familiar with pregnancy speak, she was implying that I could justifiably be 7 months along if this was my second pregnancy (they say you get bigger, faster with your second). > =​ “Nope, my first.” I smiled, turned around to get my salad, and left. But that wasn’t the end of it… All week I found myself telling people, “This French woman in line thought I was 8 months pregnant!!” Well, fast forward to today when I was looking something up, and I told Google that I was 33 weeks along… It turns out, 33 weeks is 8 months. Pregnancy math is weird!! So, she was right. (But still, let’s not make assumptions about how far along someone is or how many babies they’re having just based on their belly size. Pregnant people don’t tend to love that. 😉) It got me thinking though… You may be SURE you’re right (or at least on the right track), but sometimes you need a gentle nudge in the other direction because you are simply... not right. 🤣 (Like me, not knowing my pregnancy math.)
