It’s so rich with life it took scientists only 45 minutes of exploring to discover a new species! But 98% of it has already been decimated by logging — and a palm oil giant wants to destroy what little is left. The tiny community of Barranquilla de San Javier is fighting with all their might to save it, and they’re asking for our help. Legal experts say they have a winnable case — the community has paperwork to prove they own the land. All they need now is money to advance their case. Can you chip in to save the Chocó rainforest? [Donate $3]( another amount]( Scientists are panicking: the Chocó is barreling toward an extinction cliff. Deforestation is so out of control in the area that in a few short years, there could be nothing left. The community of Barranquilla de San Javier has been a fierce defender of the Chocó forest — peacefully doing everything they can to stop Energy & Palma’s destructive plans and protect their land. But Energy & Palma has hit back hard with a lawsuit, accusing them of causing hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage. It’s all lies, of course, but the trouble is they can’t afford to fight it. If 5000 of us chip in, they could have enough to fight back in court — and together, we can fight to save what’s left of the Chocó. Can you chip in? [Donate $3]( another amount]( The law and the international community are on the community's side – the UN even issued a statement of support. And the pressure on Energy & Palma is growing. Our community is a powerful force when we all come together and fight for what we know is right. This community, the Chacó and all living things there need us now — can you join in to help save this critical piece of rainforest? Anything extra raised will power Ekō and our campaigns worldwide fighting for people and the planet. Thanks for all that you do, Yasmin and the Ekō team --------------------------------------------------------------- More information: [Community in Ecuador punished for trying to stop alleged palm oil pollution]( Mongabay, 4 February 2022. [Ecuador: Environmental defenders sentenced to pay 151,000 dollars to palm grower]( Pressenza, 13 September 2021. [#BoletínDePrensa | EL TRIBUNAL DE ESMERALDAS DICTA SENTENCIA Y CONDENA ARBITRARIAMENTE A DEFENSORES DE BARRANQUILLA]( Accion Ecologica on Facebook (in Spanish), 1 August 2023.   Ekō is a worldwide movement of people like you, working together to hold corporations accountable for their actions and forge a new, sustainable path for our global economy.
