Smurfit Kappa is one of Europe’s biggest packaging companies. For decades it’s been decimating rainforests on Indigenous land in Colombia to make paper and cardboard. And the government did nothing to stop it. There’s a progressive government in power now in Colombia – and for the first time, it’s bringing community leaders together to decide how to resolve this land dispute. This could be a pivotal moment for our campaign, and a chance to stop Smurfit Kappa from destroying the forests and help communities get their land back. But if we don’t raise enough to cover our travel, we can’t go. All we need is 3,500 Ekō members to donate the cost of a coffee, and we can book our travel in time to arrive for the meeting. So far, it’s been making good on those promises and taking steps to finally give rural communities ownership over their land. For the first time, there’s a chance to end the years of conflict and help the Misak, Nasa, and campesino communities finally recover their ancestral land from the multinational company– and bring peace to the rainforest.
