But they’re not done fighting – and we can make a difference again right now! Isabel, the unstoppable leader and grandmother from Cipreses who led the community to victory last year, says that now, to get the government to implement the ban, they need to prove the contamination of their water goes beyond just their town. That’s where we come in. If 5000 of us chip in the cost of a coffee, we can fund the water study they need to keep the pressure going and implement this life-saving ban. We’re so powerful when we take action together – this community told Ekō that our help was crucial to finally winning this ban. Now, let’s get it over this final hurdle! Can you chip in to support this community? [Donate $3]( another amount]( It all started almost a decade ago. Isabel and a group of mothers in Cipreses noticed their children losing their sense of taste and smell. Soon, young people were developing stomach cancer. Something was deeply wrong. Then scientists confirmed it…their drinking water is contaminated with the pesticide chlorothalonil at 200 TIMES the legal limit! The poison is banned in 32 countries because it's so dangerous. But pesticide giants like Syngenta keep selling it to countries in the Global South. Last year, after years of lobbying their government to ban it, Isabel and her neighbors were on the verge of winning – which is when they asked Ekō’s global community to create international pressure – and it worked. Then, over 1,000 of us donated to power their local campaign, and in December the President signed the ban into law! But now, the government needs to actually implement the ban and the ministers are stalling because they say they need proof that the contamination goes further than just Cipreses – so we need to keep the pressure up more than ever. Let’s help them get this over the finish line. Can you chip in to help implement this life-saving ban?
