If there’s ONE strategy that’s helped me overcome my own bad habits, laziness, and procrastination more than any other… It’s creating a set of personal rules to live by. What’s so special about these “rules”? Very simple... They align your actions with your big goals and dreams… And help you make better daily decisions. If you’re looking to maximize your productivity and progress each day… I highly recommend this approach. What definite rules would serve your health, wealth, and family best? Of course your rules will look different than mine… But for the sake of giving you a template and getting your creative juices flowing… Below are 12 personal rules that help me live a more successful life: 1. I go to bed and get up at the same time seven days per week (8 pm and 4 am). I stick to my diet, and avoid caffeine after 1 pm. 2. I write for 30-90 minutes first thing every morning. 3. I do not check email before noon and I do not take phone or zoom calls unless it is a scheduled interview or meeting. 4. I act politely and courteously, and I do not swear. 5. I do my brain dump… priority to do list… and process planning at the end of each work day in preparation for the following morning. 6. I do not engage in confrontations with anyone, in-person or online. This is a waste of time and energy. If I have caused harm, I apologize and fix the situation. And then I take a deep breath, relax, breathe out, and re-focus my efforts back on my work and goals. 7. I am guided by two phrases: > “Nothing matters” - All I can do is work towards my big goals and vision of helping others, while the opinions of others do not matter. > “It will all be over soon.” - Everything, both good and bad, comes to an end. I must enjoy the good while it lasts, and persevere through the bad until I have beaten it. 8. Everything that happens to me — good and bad — is my personal responsibility. I blame no one but myself. These are the choices that I’ve made — this is the life that I’m living. I accept the consequences of my actions. 9. I will help ten million men and women transform their lives. 10. I will not be the person I don’t want to be. I will not be petty, jealous, or envious, or give in to any other of those lazy emotions. I will not gossip or speak badly of others. I will not be negative when I can be positive. I will not hurt others when it is possible to help. I will know the temptations, situations, and environments in life that I must avoid, and I will avoid them. 11. “I will always keep the child within me alive.” - Frank McKinney. I will make time to laugh and play every day. 12. “I will write with honesty and feeling.” - Ted Nicholas. The opinion of others does not matter. What matters is the number of people that I help by sharing advice and encouragement through my writing, coaching, and other products. --- These 12 Rules have accelerated my success, made me happier, and eliminated much of the stress in my life. I know the idea of “rules” may be an initial turn off for some. And it’s important to understand these are not restrictions on your freedom (you’re always in control)... But rather they are safety rails that keep you on the path to your goals. Much like the bumper guards they use for kids at the bowling alley… Personal rules keep your life free from gutterballs… So you continue rolling strike after strike.
