[Alternate text](  Dear Friend of the Constitution,  The far Left in America is attempting to rewrite our nation’s history and undermine our Constitution—with a special emphasis on eliminating the Second Amendment.  Today, you’re receiving Hillsdale College’s Second Amendment Survey because you’re someone who understands that education is essential to the defense of liberty.  We are reaching and teaching millions of Americans about the importance of liberty, and we are doing this without accepting even ONE PENNY of government funding.  Could you take a few minutes to complete our Second Amendment Survey using the secure link below?  [(  Your timely survey answers will help us reach and teach millions of our fellow citizens in the coming year about the importance of liberty—which includes the rights protected by the Second Amendment.  There is no question that one of the Left’s most powerful tools in its ongoing effort to undermine our liberty is ignorance.  Here at Hillsdale, we have been pursuing truth and defending liberty since the College was founded in 1844.  Today our educational outreach efforts include programs on a variety of topics essential to liberty, such as the Second Amendment.  As constitutional scholar Edward J. Erler observed in Imprimis, our digest of liberty that reaches millions of Americans: “The Second Amendment is an expression of first principles.”  This means the Second Amendment is essential for the preservation of freedom. If we are denied the means of defending our freedom, we will eventually lose our freedom.  This kind of thinking is foreign to most college and university campuses today, where “safe spaces” are now commonplace, and shooting clubs are nearly extinct. Here’s an example…  Not long ago, the University of Virginia canceled its traditional 21-gun salute on Veterans Day.  Why?  The administration was concerned that firing guns in honor of those who served their country and did their part to defend our freedom would cause “panic” among the student body.  Unfortunately, there are many more such examples I could cite to illustrate the disastrous effects of the ongoing decline in civics education in America.  But instead of just TALKING, it’s more important to DO something about it.  That’s why we have been working to expand our educational outreach efforts on behalf of liberty.  And this work continues today.  That’s why I would like your answers to our brief Second Amendment Survey. You can complete the survey today at this secure link:  [(  We believe that an educated citizenry is essential for the preservation of our liberty. As Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.”  Do you agree? I hope so.  This is why we reach and teach millions of Americans about the principles of liberty and the Constitution. It’s also why we need your help today.  As I mentioned, Hillsdale refuses to accept ONE PENNY of government funding—not even indirectly in the form of federal or state student grants or loans. This frees us from much burdensome and corrupting federal regulation.  Our independence from the government means that our work is entirely dependent on the generous support of citizens like you, who understand the importance of education to liberty.  It also means your gift really matters.  Today, you have a great opportunity to help preserve liberty—including the Second Amendment—for future generations.  After completing your Second Amendment Survey, please join me in the cause of liberty with your generous tax-deductible gift today.  And, when you give a $100 gift or more, we’ll send you a special, limited-edition Hillsdale College hat as our thank you.  This hat commemorates our partnership with USA Shooting, the organization dedicated to preparing the best American shooters to represent our country in the Olympics and Paralympics. But hurry—supplies are limited!  Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to receiving your completed Second Amendment Survey.   Warm regards,   Larry P. Arnn President, Hillsdale College Pursuing Truth and Defending Liberty Since 1844  P.S. Our Constitution—including the Second Amendment—is under attack today. Do you agree? Then please take our Second Amendment Survey at the secure link below. It will only take a few minutes, and your answers will help to preserve liberty for future generations.
