In the column, which you can find [here](, Dennis makes a suggestion that we believe really could make a difference against the rising tide of antisemitism in the United States. At a minimum, it would give comfort and heart to our Jewish brothers and sisters. Dennis starts at the same place most of us do: shock at the upsurges of hatred toward Jewish people, especially from the young and over-educated. Raised by Jewish parents who deeply grateful for America, Prager recalled the words of Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, the head of the Chabad movement who came to the United States from Eastern Europe in 1941, and “declared that America was a medinah shel chesed, ‘a righteous country'.” America, Prager wrote, “has always been a blessing to its Jews.” All the more shocking then, in my view, is the hatred on college campuses, crowds chanting for the death of Israel and excusing or cheering the murder of Jewish babies and their mothers. Take the Spartacus choice. Put a mezuzah on the doorposts of your homes and apartments, a sign that “we are all Jews.” For our readers who do not know, a mezuzah is a small box that Jews place on the right doorpost of their home as commanded to by the Bible. Inside the box is a scroll with the passage from Deuteronomy (6:4-9) that gives this commandment, but is also among the most resonant of Jewish prayers: Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. A further suggestion: Once your mezuzah is in place, take a picture and post it on your social media account. Let the world know where you stand. For most Jews, the mezuzah is the only outward sign that the residents within are Jews. Because of the Hebrew lettering, it’s a sign that can’t be missed. One of the great things about being a Christian is that since we believe the whole story, beginning to, well, not end, but middle, we can enjoy all the cool Jewish stuff as well. The Psalms form the core of the daily prayer of the Church, the Catholic and Orthodox masses are structured remarkably like the sundown service that ushers in the Sabbath. Would it matter? If enough Americans did this, maybe the message of solidarity with Jews would reverberate around the world, that in this time of greater antisemitism than any since the Holocaust, “We are all Jews.” The Gilder team is doing this.
