[Investment House Wrap Up] [IH Daily]( [Technical Traders Alert]( [Rapid Profits Stock Trader]( [About Jon]( In This Issue: - Market Summary - Target Hit - Covered Call Options Play Weekend Wrap Up for 09/24/2023 by Jon Johnson Editor, [Investment House Daily]( [Technical Traders Alert]( & [Rapid Profits Stock Trader]( [1pxtrans]( [If You Think the Stock Market is Unpredictable, Think Again]( Believe it or not, there’s a way to know what direction a stock is poised to go over a period of time… I’m talking about a technical trading technique that lets you know whether a stock is going up…or whether it’s going down – within a rough time frame. I personally use this technique to consistently make profitable trades… And I’ve put together a short presentation with details on how you can start taking advantage of this technique alongside me. [Click this link to view the presentation.]( 1. Market Summary [Jon Johnson] - Jobless claims remain low and there are some reasons for that - Philly Fed drops stone-like after a one month upside blip - Leading economic indicators again indicating weakness - So bad it is good: S&P 500, Nasdaaq, DJ30 very near support from August lows - Leadership thins further as the usual suspects fade away, e.g. software, some big name techs. - Friday after serious selling leaves open a short covering relief bounce. A second selloff post Powell. No "Thursday after" opposite day from the Powell presser selling. Large downside gaps on the large cap indices followed by selling to the close. Russell 2000 gapped and sold as well. S&P 400 just sold; didn’t need a gap. NOTE: The figures and information above are from the 9/21 report. Or at least play the downside. With many exchange-traded fund (ETF) possibilities now available, you don’t even have to switch your thinking: play the upside to play the downside. Inverse ETF’s allow people used to playing the upside to play the downside with upside patterns. Index goes down, the ETF goes up. With the indices weakening heading into the last half of September -- typically the worst month for stocks (the old adage "stocks sell in September to bottom in October" still applies even with the Fed controlling markets) -- we were watching for downside opportunities. The semiconductors are very key to the market, and when their patterns started turning bearish we wanted to play the move but with stock. Thus, the index ETF’s such as SOXS come into play. Lots of volume, reasonably priced, SOXS can turn a nice and quick profit when the selling starts. On Sept. 15, SOXS broke higher through the 50-day exponential moving average (EMA) -- as the PHLX Semiconductor Sector (SOX) broke below that same level. The indices were trying to hold their 50-day moving average (MA) all through the month, and when they started to go, the probability of September selling jumped. That break up through the 50-day EMA was our entry signal. We issued the text and email alerts to buy SOXS trading at $11.01 on the ask. SOX traded higher the next session but faded, only to resume the upside on Tuesday. Then the sellers hit post-Powell and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) interest rate decision, surging SOXS upside as SOX fell. Thursday stocks suffered again with SOXS gapping upside as the market gapped downside. Then came decision time. SOXS can still run further for us -- the September selling likely is just starting. At the same time, the market had struggled all week, selling Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in big chunks. After that kind of selling there would likely be short-covering on Friday ahead of the weekend. We decided to sell half the position as we had a decent quick gain built in. We issued the alert to sell half the position for $12.02, banking 9.17%. The rest we are leaving to work lower here in the last part of September, looking for this September selling to lead to more gains into an October bottom. Then, we look to play the rebound and the seasonal move back upside. (NYSE: HGV) -- Hilton Grand Vacations Inc. is currently trading at $40.13. The Oct. 20 $45 calls (HGV20231020C00045000) are currently trading at $0.15. That provides a return of about 18% if HGV is above $45 by the expiration. [Learn more about our Covered Call Tables here!]( About Investment House: [Investment House]( Since 1999! Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
