[View in browser]( | [Join the community - sign up for an e27 account now!]( [We’ve learnt the hard way that the entire Southeast Asia can't be painted with the same brush: Zilingo CEO Ankiti Bose]( Editor's Note The context around this thought is weird — basically I got frustrated and switched my browser — but it revolves around the 80/20 rule in regards to management. One of the mistakes a Big Boss often makes is they get frustrated with the 20 per cent of an employee that, to put it bluntly, kind of sucks. They get so fixated on that 20 per cent that they forget about the 80 per cent the person does well. A bad boss then doesn't check their emotions and does something drastic and fires the employee. They usually replace that person with someone who does that "failed" 20 per cent EXTREMELY well. So congratulations, the boss has filled that 20 per cent of frustration. Then 6 months later they realise the other 80 per cent is super important. Their new employee may be fantastic at skill A - but is terrible at skill B, C, D, E and F. As a manager, it is difficult. But it's also important. Remember that even the best employees have about 20 per cent of their skills that are "meh". It's almost impossible to find a 100 per cent talent (and I bet you're probably more in the 60-40 range). There is a long history of bad owners/bosses/CEOs who have thrown away talented people because their fault, for some reason, rubbed the manager the wrong way. So if you're feeling frustrated, just remind yourself that nobody is perfect. Far from it.
