Was that the final rally? [DWR Logo]( July 18, 2024 Hi Reader We haven’t seen this level of excitement since 2021 and we know how that ended. That’s why we’re going to take a step back today and look at what’s driving the current rush into stocks, gold, and so much else. To be frank - we’ve got bad, good, and great news for you. First, the bad news. There’s no catalyst for a broad economic turnaround. The winners will keep winning. Healthcare, defense, and insurance are set to stay strong. The losers will keep losing. Retail, travel, auto sales, and anyone selling products or services that “can wait” are set to, at best, keep limping along.. But here’s the good news. Some of those losers are going to turn into winners and it’s not going to take long either. This change will come fast because the Fed is on the verge of starting a long and large rate cutting cycle. The market upswing you saw this week was preparing for it. Look at the odds of a rate cut by its meeting in September (just 62 days away). A rate cut is a virtual lock at 83%: [chart] Last month odds of an “early” September rate cut were under 40%. Today they’re more than double that. Now, since the cuts are starting early, the probability of more cuts this year is surging too. This chart shows the expected number of rate cuts in 2024. [chart] There were high hopes of four rate cuts at the start of the year. Those hopes steadily faded through the spring and bottomed out over the summer. Now it’s two and leaning towards more rate cuts than at any time since April. Now onto the great news. You’re in a prime position to take advantage of all this. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
