Top bank reveals surprise “turning point” dead ahead [DWR Logo]( July 9, 2024 Hi Reader Analysts at Citi made a surprise admission last week. It was on the Friday after July 4th so practically no one saw it. But we caught it. And it’s big. Here’s the short of it. Citi’s economic forecasts see the economy is deteriorating so quickly that it is now expecting major moves from the Fed. The implications (and opportunity) from seeing this early will be massive. It’s been over two years since the Fed woke up to the obvious and predictable inflation resulting from the $7 trillion pandemic money dump and started raising rates. Since then it has been solely focused on “fighting inflation.” Citi thinks that’s about to change. Inflation will be much less of a worry compared to a slumping economy and expects the Fed to act. The big bank now expects eight rate cuts before the end of 2025. That would take rates from 5.25% down to 3.25%. A drop like that would go a long way to stem the declines in housing construction, auto sales, and other big ticket sales that have slowed significantly over the last few months. That would be good for the economy overall. But it will be a lifeline to a sector that Forbes’ once said would be the “first casualty” of the Fed rate hikes. It could be a major turnaround. And we’re getting ready for it. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
