Best way to sidestep the recession?

May 15th, 2024 Hello , GameStop (GME) is getting every headline… But it’s another stock that’s trouncing it. And, considering this play at the forefront of an unstoppable growth trend, there could be more like it that come along for the ride. It’s a tale of two stocks. GameStop on one side. It’s a temporary plaything. We issued a warning on the [return of the meme stock in 2023.]( Each one of those warnings applies to GameStop and other meme stocks today. Long story short, they may run in the short-term, but the awful fundamentals will drag them down in time. So we’ll keep our focus on companies that have GameStop-level potential. One of those is Vistra Corp (VST). Vistra is an electric power company based in Texas. That’s usually pretty boring. But not in the age of AI. The power required by the AI data centers is soaring. AI could eventually take up 20% of the world’s electricity production). Vistra is at the center of the AI power boom. Daniel Loeb, the billionaire founder of hedge fund Third Point LLC, is a fan of the company too. He noted to his investors how Vistra shut down coal-fired plants, invested in natural gas, and bought a nuclear power company recently too. This growth strategy has made Vistra a big winner. Its shares have soared from $24 a year ago to more than $90 today, easily beating GameStop (which has just about doubled over the last year). Vistra is now going to join the S&P 500 Index which means the big run is likely over, but it’s an important sign of where things are going.
