Can we just call it “stagflation” now?

The bad news is the overall number is going in the wrong direction. The numbers can “beat” expectation or not, but this trend is nobody’s friend: That’s bad. But there’s worse. The data underneath the headline numbers signals a stagflation is gaining a greater foothold. Here’s how. The overall jobs number was fine: +175,000. The problem is the types of jobs that are being created. Leading the way were healthcare (+56,000), social assistance (+31,000), and government (+9,000). Construction jobs, meanwhile, as just +9,000. That’s not nearly enough to make a dent in surging housing and rent prices. And it’s exactly how you get stagflation.But this is just one major trend unfolding. There’s plenty more.
