Here’s what you may have missed: The Respect for Marriage Act, which passed the Democratic House, would codify gay and interracial marriage, protecting it from the threat the conservative Supreme Court poses to it post-Roe. Now, Republicans in the Senate are claiming they might hold it up because Democrats appear poised to pass a climate bill — and they don’t want to let us have both. [It’s time for Senate Republicans to start caring about their constituents, not just scoring petty political points with right-wing extremists. Those three cases Thomas mentions were all watershed decisions that established constitutional rights, including the right to contraception, the right to a consensual partner of the same sex, and the right to same-sex marriage.
