Our co-presentation of the new documentary Goodnight Brooklyn -- the inspirational story of the late, great Brooklyn DIY venue Death By Audio -- had already been in the works for some time. Then, this past weekend, we were all greeted by news of the devastating [venue fire tragedy in Oakland.] Now is a time for coming together, for our local DIY scene has never needed us more. [Our Friday 12/16 screening of the film is preceded by a sizeable Q&A panel]: an "L.A. DIY State of the Union" featuring the dedicated folks who for years have run [The Smell], [Pehrspace] (RIP) and [Basic Flowers]. This panel will be both cathartic and optimistic, pointing a hopeful way towards a thriving future for our scene.
