EQUITY IN FOCUS: Report Release The Worker Institute @ ILR-Cornell is releasing its Equity in Focus Report, a compilation of key findings from a one-year webinar series conducted in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau. The Equity in Focus Report explores how best to prioritize gender and racial equity as core components of a strong and just economic recovery at a time of substantial federal investment in job creation in the child care economy, the clean energy economy and the building trades. Hear from industry leaders, researchers, and other key stakeholders including Womens Bureau Director Wendy Chun-Hoon - who are working on gender and racial equity in the trades and non-traditional jobs as well as tackling the economic inequality in our care economy as they discuss ways to simultaneously raise wages for the women-dominated workforce while breaking down barriers for women in higher-paid male-dominated sectors. You are invited to join this convening virtually where participants will address findings of the report, share lessons learned from the series, and discuss next steps to ensure equity in job creation that increases opportunities for women and workers of color. Please note that in-person registration is now closed due to capacity. [Equity in Focus Report Release](

[WANTO Women in Apprenticeship & Nontraditional Occupations]
2023 FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations Grant Program Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor announced a funding opportunity of $5 million for up to 14 grants to attract and support women in [Registered Apprenticeship Programs]( and industries where they are underrepresented such as construction, manufacturing, and cybersecurity. Administered by the Departments [Employment and Training Administration]( and [Womens Bureau](, the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant program supports community-based organizations in their efforts to recruit, train, and retain more women in Registered Apprenticeships and nontraditional occupations. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and the Department of Labors Womens Bureau Director Wendy Chun-Hoon highlighted the announcement last week during their visit to Nontraditional Employment for Women, a New York City community-based organization, as part of the administrations Investing in America tour. The Investing in America agenda, which includes legislation such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPs and Science Act, is creating millions of good-paying jobs in renewable energy, transportation and broadband infrastructure sectors, and the Biden-Harris administration is helping workers access the training and develop the skills needed to fill these jobs. This funding opportunity will help address the significant underrepresentation of women in Registered Apprenticeship in skilled trades, such as construction, and in emerging, high-growth industries like manufacturing, infrastructure, cybersecurity and healthcare. Currently, women only comprise approximately 14 percent of Registered Apprentices while they account for nearly half the U.S. labor force.
