[US Department of Labor] [US Department of Labor - Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs] [Mental Health Awareness Month] Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs recognizes the importance of raising awareness and educating the public about mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. In addition to raising awareness, we are dedicated to reducing the stigma associated with mental health. OFCCP has a unique role as a civil rights agency within DOL. We enforce Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a law which prohibits those who do business with the federal government from discriminating in employment against individuals with disabilities and requires employers to provide equal employment opportunity to them. OFCCP requires government contractors to comply with the law and treat mental health conditions just as they do other disabilities. The Department of Labor and OFCCP are at the forefront of empowering workers and strengthening their voices by advancing inclusive, mental health friendly workplaces. DOL has launched a [Mental Health at Work Initiative](, designed to advance wellness in the workplace. At OFCCP we provide substantial compliance assistance resources to assist federal contractors in complying with Section 503 rules and regulations and ensuring equal opportunity opportunities for persons with mental health disabilities.
