BREAKING: South Carolina GOP lawmakers propose the death penalty for women who have abortions.   BREAKING: South Carolina GOP lawmakers propose the death penalty for women who have abortions. 21 state Republican lawmakers in South Carolina are co-sponsoring a bill that could make a woman who has an abortion in the state eligible for the death penalty. These Republicans have made it perfectly clear they believe women are second-class citizens who don’t deserve the right to govern their own bodies or the right to their lives. But this is the despicable reality of what is happening in Republican legislatures across the country. And while we wait to see what the future holds for this bill, you can bet more state Republicans across the nation will start introducing similar legislation soon. As it stands, every Democratic-led state has taken action to protect or expand abortion access, but Republican-led states continue to push for extremist abortion bans. It’s simple: State legislatures led by Republicans want to dictate our bodies, our freedoms, and now, the right to our lives. This is just the tip of the iceberg. For far too long, the Democratic state ballot level has been neglected while Republicans have quietly advanced their far-right agenda. We cannot afford to sit idly by as bills like this are getting oxygen. Republicans already control 58 state legislative chambers – and many of those states have Republican governors who’ve already promised to sign further abortion bans into law. Our best chance at ensuring bills like this never reach a vote is by electing state Democrats who will safeguard abortion rights, fight for expanded access to care, and ensure the right to choose what they do with their own bodies without fear of violent repercussions. [So please, chip in to help us elect pro-choice Democrats who will be champions for reproductive rights.]( Thank you.
