State legislators can stand up with Democrats for democracy or with Republicans for autocracy, theocracy and plutocracy.   [Rep. Jamie Raskin]( Hi – it’s Jamie Raskin. As lead impeachment manager in Donald Trump’s second Senate trial, I learned that we must be emphatic about the difference between truth and lies and we must be unyielding in our defense of Constitutional democracy. But we're still in the fight of our lives today with the forces of fanaticism and authoritarianism, and this is a fight taking place across America. The struggle to defend the right to vote and democratic elections begins at the state and local level. That’s why it’s critically important to elect Democratic state legislators. I know the central importance of that role, I served as a state Senator in Maryland’s General Assembly for ten years. When I was a state legislator, I learned that you can be a justice politician or an injustice politician. GOP legislators have chosen the injustice path – one that prioritizes voter suppression, dangerous abortion bans, and backward-looking anti-LGBTQ+ policies. I know that by coming together to build Democratic power in the states this fall, we can build a future that puts the needs of the American people ahead of the Trumpified Republicans’ lust for power. But state legislative races are consistently underfunded and overlooked. So I’m reaching out to you right now on behalf of my friends at the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee to ask for your help electing state Democrats across America. Whether we are talking about voting rights, redistricting or the rights of women, state legislatures are essential to the success of democracy and freedom in America. [Will you send in a gift of $7 right now to support pro-democracy state Democrats this November and beyond? The DLCC is the official party committee dedicated to winning state legislature seats, and my friends there desperately need your help with just a handful of weeks until Election Day – so anything you can spare at this crucial moment will be meaningful in this fight >>]( If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately. [Chip in $7 now »]( [Chip in $25 now »]( [Chip in $50 now »]( [Chip in $100 now »]( [Chip in another amount »]( The GOP’s platform isn’t just extreme – it’s a direct threat to our democracy. More than 1,000 GOP state legislators and candidates have made it clear since January 6th that they stand outside the constitutional order – by excusing, sanctioning, or even participating in the insurrection. They’ve parroted lies about election fraud to justify devastating criminal violence, and we cannot let them continue to build power in state legislatures. Any of these candidates could move on from their time as a state legislator to run for higher office – that’s why it’s crucial that we elect Democrats to state legislatures who will block extremism at its inception and stop these right-wing candidates from building power. Our democracy depends on people like you meeting this pivotal moment and stepping up to the plate. So I’m asking you to consider: [Will you support my friends at the DLCC with a gift of $7 today to elect Democrats to state legislatures in this year’s midterm elections and defend our democracy against dangerous right-wing extremists?]( Thanks for your help and solidarity, Jamie Raskin P.S.
