Haley Resigns as U.S. UN Ambassador DimWit Politics  In a move so sudden it shocked her own staff, on October 9, 2018, United States Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Nikki Haley submitted her resignation after 19 months on the job. She will perform her duties until the end of the year. Haley, a Republican, was confirmed as the U.S. UN ambassador a mere four days after President Donald J. Trump was inaugurated. She was seen as an earnest and determined ally to the new administration who supported the president's America First policy. After her nomination, President Trump called Haley a "proven deal-maker" with a "track record of bringing people together regardless of background or party affiliation." Haley called her tenure as UN ambassador the "honor of a lifetime" and said, "I proudly serve in this administration. But I don't agree with the president on everything." Haley will be best remembered for accusing the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) of bias before withdrawing the U.S. from it. On April 9, 2018, Haley announced new sanctions against Russia because they had the "blood of Syrian children" on their hands. When Haley assumed her new position at the UN, she said famously about opponents to Trump policies: "For those who don't have our backs, we're taking names." After President Barack Obama's last State of the Union address in January 2016, Haley delivered the GOP response.
