Demand states stop funding fake abortion clinics

In at least 16 states, taxpayer money is funding fake abortion clinics: Crisis Pregnancy Centers that shame and scare women into carrying unwanted pregnancies while providing no actual medical services or access to contraceptives. Rather than offering the full range of healthcare options to pregnant people, their purpose is to prevent women from learning about or using abortion services. They coerce, pressure, frighten, and shame women into carrying unwanted pregnancies. In 16 states, these “clinics” are funded with hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to provide misinformation about abortion while also failing to provide access to basic contraceptive choices, including medication, IUDs, and even condoms. The “services” provided by these clinics are really misdirections that serve to confuse and manipulate people who come to them desperate for help. And about half the states that fund these clinics also misdirect federal funds intended to support low-income people and families. Especially in states with anti-abortion laws, this information can be shared with other anti-abortion organizations, or used to harass those who are seeking basic healthcare.  Many Crisis Pregnancy Centers offer free pregnancy tests and counseling, as well as STD testing, but the information they give may be inaccurate. For example, they may advise that a pregnancy is later than it actually is, to discourage clients from seeking an abortion. They may offer “pre-abortion screenings” or “abortion education,” but they will not help anyone in actually obtaining an abortion. A Crisis Pregnancy Center may discuss religion when the client does not wish to, or pressure a client into putting a future baby up for adoption, and they may provide only fertility awareness for preventing conception. They may shame people for having sex before marriage or single parenting, or they may say pejorative things about people of color or LGBTQ+ people. These centers are not bound by actual medical ethics. Healthcare funding should only go toward actual health care, bound by medical ethics and with the health of the patient as the determining priority.
