Tell Facebook and Google: Keep private information private!

Facebook and Google extend the government’s overreach by passing on sensitive abortion-related information to state prosecutors. They must do a better job of protecting users’ privacy. [Democracy for America Advocacy Fund](#) {NAME}, Google, Facebook, and online pharmacies are now providing user data to law enforcement seeking to prosecute those who seek abortions. Since the overturning of Roe v Wade, prosecutions of abortion seekers have made many Americans painfully aware that they have lost the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions. Now, with the ubiquitous online presence of Facebook/Meta and Google, as well as online pharmacies, providing law enforcement agencies with personal information leading to arrests and convictions, it seems we are seeing real movement toward a totalitarian police state. Google promised to delete all their abortion-related data over a year ago, but they have not kept this promise, and have instead shared highly sensitive information, including users’ web addresses, search records, and abortion clinic location data. Facebook also continues to share information, including chat histories, with third parties. Last summer, Facebook’s parent company Meta provided prosecutors with unencrypted chat messages in which a mother discussed abortion medication with her own daughter.
