Tell Congress: Propose and pass a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College now. [Democracy for America Advocacy Fund](#) {NAME}, While coverage of the Republican convention in the aftermath of the terrible shooting on Saturday is dominating our media, we cannot allow the act of one terrorist keep us from working towards the vision we believe moves America forward.  With that in mind, let’s talk about and take action on a critical voting issue: The Electoral College. It has failed us twice in the last 25 years, allowing George W. Bush in 2000 and Donald Trump in 2016 to take office despite losing the popular vote. A candidate winning the presidency while losing the popular vote by millions isn't democracy – it's a distortion of the people's will. It's turning our presidential elections into a game where only a handful of "swing states" matter. If you live in California or Alabama, candidates barely bother to campaign there. Your vote? It's taken for granted. This system is suppressing voter turnout and distorting our politics. A voter in Wyoming has nearly four times the electoral power of a voter in California. This outdated system is making a mockery of our democracy, and it's time we put an end to it. [Tell Congress: Propose and pass a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College now.]( [SIGN AND SEND]( he American people are waking up to this injustice. A recent Pew Research Center study found that 65% of Americans favor ditching the Electoral College for a popular vote system. It's not hard to see why. The Electoral College violates the principle of "one person, one vote." It gives swing states disproportionate influence in national politics. It discourages voter turnout in non-competitive states. And it allows a minority to overrule the will of the majority. We need a system where every vote counts equally, where candidates have to appeal to all Americans, not just those in a few key states. We need a true democracy where the people – all the people == choose their leader. This won't be an easy fight. Changing the Constitution is a big deal. But our democracy is worth it. We've amended the Constitution before to expand voting rights and make our system more fair. We can do it again. [Join us in calling on Congress to take the first step. Urge them to propose a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College and establish a national popular vote for president.]( Let's build a democracy where every voice is heard, and every vote truly counts. - DFA AF Team [Power This Campaign]( Democracy for America Advocacy Fund is a 501c4 organization.
