Stand up for fundamental freedoms nationwide!

Overturning Roe v. Wade was not enough for the GOP. Now the Republicans have their sights on a nationwide abortion ban. But this is exactly what Donald Trump and his Republican party are seeking, and with unequivocal Supreme Court support, they continue to chip away at fundamental rights, one state and one medication at a time, with the intent of imposing a nationwide ban. The irony of the party that seeks to be free of government regulations putting women’s bodies under lock and key is not lost on us. Overturning Roe v. Wade was never going to be enough for the extremists who make up the center of the Republican party. They will not stop until they control women’s reproductive rights nationwide. These personal healthcare decisions rightfully belong to each person individually, in consultation with a doctor. It’s really a question of who is in control of a woman’s body: the woman herself, or a patriarchal contingent of mostly male legislators and judges. A nationwide abortion ban, as sought by Republicans, would strip women of their bodily autonomy in every state, regardless of that state’s public support for reproductive rights and freedom.  [Tell Congress: Reproductive rights are human rights. Wade, he has also said that women who get abortions should be “punished” with jail time. Strangely enough, the same logic somehow does not apply to men who grab women “by the p---y” -- an offense that, like a nationwide abortion ban, also robs women of bodily autonomy.  Thanks to Trump and the GOP, more than 1 in 3 of the nation’s women already live under an abortion ban, often not even allowing exceptions for rape or incest. Now IVF too is also under attack as the ultimate result of bans based on the legal presumption of fetal “personhood” -- that a fertilized blastocyst has all the rights of a newborn child.
