The democratic process can be difficult and fraught, but the success and health of our Democracy is predicated on a peaceful discourse. The apparent assassination attempt on former President Trump is unacceptable. Political violence has no place in this election and no place in our community. There must be a thorough investigation to determine exactly what happened and how it happened. Anyone involved must be fully held accountable. I am confident that our law enforcement will work closely with the FBI and Secret Service to conduct a thorough and complete investigation into the events of last weekend. Troopers & officers who put their own lives on the line to protect Pennsylvanians and the former President are heroes. The gunman could have killed dozens of innocent people. It didn’t happen because of brave law enforcement officers. I’m proud of them & recognize their heroism. Gun violence is a scourge on our communities and we must not allow ourselves to accept it as normal. Every day, more than 120 Americans are killed with guns and more than 200 are shot and wounded. We must commit ourselves to bringing about an end to this uniquely American tragedy. I am glad the former President was not seriously harmed.
