[Democratic Values](#) [Tell the USPS Inspector General and the Postal Regulatory Commission to Step in to Allow Public Feedback on Louis DeJoy’s “Dramatic Changes” Now!]( --------------------------------------------------------------- During his keynote address at the 2023 National Postal Forum, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy boasted about his efforts to implement "dramatic changes" and accelerate his privatization plan for the United States Postal Service (USPS). DeJoy has already announced the consolidation of numerous postal processing centers nationwide, which puts the involved facilities in the Sorting & Delivery Center consolidation at greater risk of future closure. The consolidation plan includes the elimination of 200 annexes deemed "small and wasteful" and cost-cutting measures across the USPS delivery network, which serves 165 million households six days a week. These reductions in the USPS delivery network could have severe consequences, particularly for remote areas, rural communities, and Indigenous populations who heavily rely on USPS for crucial services including medication delivery, social security checks, and voting by mail. [SIGN NOW: Call for USPS Transparency »]( These communities will not be adequately served by for-profit delivery services, as private companies like FedEx and UPS often find remote and rural areas insufficiently profitable. In fact, these companies frequently rely on USPS for "last-mile delivery" rather than delivering to such remote locations themselves. USPS, unlike private entities, is required to provide service to all individuals, as its mission is not solely focused on generating profits but on serving the public. It’s clear that DeJoy aims to limit transparency and exclude public input during the review process, accusing those seeking postal regulation of “overstepping their boundaries.” We must resist DeJoy’s proposals. USPS should allow affected communities and postal workers to evaluate and provide public input before implementing irrevocable damage.
