This week, we nationally recognize and aim to raise awareness about the life-threatening complications pregnancy may present during Black Maternal Health Week. [Democrats][Join us.] Hi there. It’s Brencia, the Political Director here at the DNC. Every year, from April 11-17, we recognize Black Maternal Health Week and aim to raise awareness about the life-threatening complications pregnancy may present. So today, I want to draw attention to how President Biden and Vice President Harris are working towards more equitable outcomes for women receiving health care, especially Black women and mothers. The Biden-Harris administration is leading the fight to end high rates of maternal mortality that have affected Black women and rural communities disproportionately for decades -- by increasing access to health care for Black women and providing training to health care workers for addressing complications, from pregnancy to postpartum care. They have also organized the first-ever federal Maternal Health Call to Action and a Maternal Health Day of Action Summit to address disparities in maternal health care. In 2021, President Biden made a point to federally acknowledge how Black mothers are impacted. Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women in America. And Trump’s push to end reproductive freedom coupled with sweeping abortion bans across the country resulted in 68 percent of OBGYNs saying the overturning of Roe has worsened their ability to manage pregnancy-related emergencies. Today, I’m hoping you’ll join us in taking action, using our organizing tool, Reach, to share the facts about how the fall of Roe v. Wade has impacted the Black Maternal Health crisis. It’s so important we share this message with our communities. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
